Hafthor Bjornsson is often regarded as potentially the greatest Strongman athlete in history, and his list of achievements certainly backs it up. Despite being one of the oldest active competitors on the professional scene, Hafthor frequently finds new improvements, as was the case in his most recent training session. Namely, Hafthor shared a video to Instagram displaying an incredible Single-Arm Weight Over Bar Unofficial World Record.
Hafthor Bjornsson’s greatest strength is undoubtedly his strength, but his pulling power clearly helps him excel in throwing events as well. Well, while visiting Scotland and the 2025 Rogue Invitational, Hafthor decided to give the weight over bar event a try. So, he set the bar to a height of 16 feet and picked up a 24-kilogram (52.9-pound) sandbag. While that is the usual event of performing the exercise, Hafthor also decided to step forward four meters, which made the challenge much more difficult.
Hafthor Bjornsson performed the throw with just one arm. Moreover, he used his left arm, as he suffered an injury in his right shoulder, which ended up forcing him to withdraw from the 2025 Rogue Invitational. He then performed two swings with the sandbag, moving the implement in a pendulum motion from between his legs and up to shoulder height. Then, on the third swing, Hafthor used even more force and tossed the bag up and over the bar. Interestingly, Hafthor easily cleared the bar, which goes to show that his toss significantly exceeded 16 feet.
“Nobody has ever done this. 24kg bag over 16’, 4 meters out. Unofficial World Record!” wrote Hafthor Bjornsson on Instagram.

Hafthor Bjornsson then revealed that he is focusing on the Deadlift, as he wanted to shut down all rumors about his 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) World Record that stood as the heaviest pull until that point. So, The Mountain made his way to the 2025 Eisenhart Black Competition, where he deadlifted 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) to break the record. Just a few weeks later, Hafthor competed in and won the 2025 Iceland’s Strongest Man.
His deadlift goals were not settled, which is why he accepted an invite for the 2025 Giants Live Strongman Open & World Deadlift Championships. His performance did not disappoint, as Hafthor set another deadlift world record of 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds). Not only that, but Hafthor also managed to continue competing across the other four events and ended up winning the competition. His season stopped there due to an injury, which is unfortunate since Hafthor was hoping to put on a show at the Rogue Invitational as well.
As for his career stats, Hafthor Bjornsson has 84 international and national appearances, along with 43 victories, which gives him a very impressive win rate. Some of his wins include the World’s Strongest Man, 3x Arnold Strongman Classics, 5x Europe’s Strongest Man, and many others. The list of World Records that he has set over the course of his career is also very extensive, as Hafthor has many strengths in his arsenal.
