Joey Swoll is pulling a double shift to ensure public gyms remain free of nonsense and hostility. In a pair of Instagram videos, Swoll called out a personal trainer for recording herself blocking a dumbbell rack during a workout. Then, took issue with a man mocking a gym goer for performing cheat curls.
For years, Swoll has devoted his time and effort to rid the world of what he refers to as ‘toxic gym culture.’ He has accumulated more than four million followers on Instagram as he continues to fight for people who lack the platform or confidence to speak up.
You would think he wouldn’t have to condemn athletes and coaches, yet that couldn’t be further from the truth. From Olympia champions, and WWE stars, to now personal trainers, nobody is safe when Swoll witnesses a gym injustice.
Joey Swoll Takes Jab At Personal Trainer Blocking Weight Rack; Criticizes Man for Mocking Gym Goer Practicing Cheat Curls
In Swoll’s first video, he reacts to a personal trainer blocking the dumbbell rack while attempting to exercise. She becomes perturbed after a man interrupts her set to return the weights to where he found them.
“First off, just because you’re filming at the gym does not mean that everybody else has to stop their workout just for you including putting their weights back. And secondly, you’re a personal trainer and coach, how do not know better than to work out directly in front of a dumbbell rack, let alone film in front of it.
Considering that she broke one of the gym’s most common rules, Swoll believes she deserves to be banned for her judgmental demeanor and behavior.

“And if somebody does come along, you move immediately and this man is nothing but nice to you but you decide to put this post up anyway? Seriously? What’s even crazier is right after this you post to advertise your challenge saying how you’re so thoughtful and non-judgemental. Then, immediately after that, you post this making fun of this man on a treadmill. How thoughtful and non-judgemental. I hope this gym sees this and kicks your ass out,” shares Joey Swoll.

Next, Swoll called out a young adult who mocked an older gym goer for performing cheat curls, a technique which has been used by top-tier bodybuilders including former seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“First of all that man looks amazing, especially for his age. I bet you that he has been in the gym longer than you have been alive. He would absolutely school you in the gym. And what’s he doing? He’s doing what’s called a cheat curl. When you’re doing heavier weight sometimes some people use some momentum, use a little swing so they can complete the rep.”
Swoll adds that cheat curls are popular for athletes of varying sports like arm wrestling as well.
“A lot of great bodybuilders do these, a lot of old-school lifters do them. A lot of arm-wrestlers love to do these. But you know what he’s doing most of all? Minding his own business. Getting a great workout in.”
“The fact that you think it’s okay to take a video of him to post on social media and make fun of him behind his back by the way like an absolute coward blows my mind. You need to do better,” says Joey Swoll.

Bodybuilding veteran Lee Priest chimed in and hoped to see the man in the video lose his gym membership.
Ensuring gyms remain safe and welcoming to all people remains Swoll’s top priority. He recently saw to it that two ladies were banned from the gym’s spa amenities after they illegally recorded a naked woman enjoying her stay. Not only was an investigation into their actions launched, but Swoll hoped the victim pressed charges.
Having garnered praise from Arnold Schwarzenegger with his gym positivity movement, Joey Swoll intends to keep making fitness centers more hospitable for those simply there for a solid workout.
