Kellan Lutz Biography

Early Life

Kellan Christopher Lutz, popularly known as Kellan Lutz was born to Karla and Bradley Lutz on March 15, 1985 in Dickinson, North Dakota. Kellan has six brothers – Brandon Tanner, David, Daniel, Brad and Chris. The family on both his parents’ side has German ancestry.

Kellan Lutz completed his schooling from Horizon High school in Scottsdale, Arizona. He then pursued higher education and pursued a degree in chemical engineering from Chapman University. However, he never worked as a professional engineer. Instead, Kellan decided to pursue a career in acting and started working in that direction.

Acting Career

Kellan Lutz started his career with recurring small roles in series like Model Citizens, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation etc. And also worked in movies like Prom Night in the 2000s. During this time, the 38-year-old actor also appeared in several music videos and TV series but did not get a breakthrough role that could give him the recognition.

However, things took a huge turn when Kellan was cast as a werewolf Emmett Cullen in the Twilight film series based on Stephanie Meyer’s novels of the same name. Starting with the first instalment of the series, The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), Lutz played Emmett Cullen in all the Twilight movies.

He worked in notable projects like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Immortals in the early 2010s. The North Dakota native played Greek God of Sea Poseidon in the Immortals where he had to work really hard on his physique to fit well into the character.

He was in consideration for lead roles in ambitious projects like Hansel and Gretel as well as Conan the Barbarian during this time. However, he lost these opportunities to Jeremy Renner and Jason Momoa respectively. But it is a part and parcel of the profession and Lutz backed the role of Hercules in the Epic movie The Legend of Hercules. However, the movie was not a critical and commercial success. Lutz had revealed in a 2016 tweet that he had a meeting with American director McG and Wonderland Sound & Vision for the prospects of him playing He-Man on screen.

Starting in 2020, Kellan Lutz appeared as FBI Special Agent Kenny Crosby in the television series FBI: Most Wanted. However, he quit the series in order to move his family back to California.

Modelling Career

Kellan Lutz is signed with New York based American international modelling agency Ford Models. He featured in Kelvin Klein’s 2010 advertising campaign.

Kellan Lutz Workout

Kellan Lutz is the hardest worker in the room and he takes great pride in training regularly without falling off the training routine. Lutz prefers to go hard at his training routine and believes in giving it all in the training without holding back as if there is no tomorrow. Kellan Lutz incorporates a lot of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and supersets to increase the aerobic intensity of the workout. Supersets are an effective way of putting in more work in a relatively short amount of time.

It involves doing sets of two different exercises one after the another. So instead of doing all the sets of exercise A and then doing exercise B, you do one set of exercise A and follow it up with one set of exercise B and repeat the process until all the sets are complete. The rest periods are usually shorter and that results in overall reduced workout time and an increased aerobic intensity of the workout.

Kellan Lutz Diet

Kellan Lutz’s dietary habits are more instinctive. He does not follow a rigidly structured diet plan where he has to be overly restrictive about the foods and portions. Instead, the 38-year-old actor ensures that he is eating enough protein through lean sources of protein like eggs, tofu and lean meats.

However, to prepare for his role as Hercules, Kellan Lutz followed a paleo diet which means a diet that our pre-agriculture ancestors consumed to sustain themselves. Simply put, the diet consists only of meats, fruits, fresh vegetables and not processed foods, sugars or even dairy products of any sort.

Kellan Lutz is similar to most of us in one aspect – He did not like salads when he got on a healthy diet. However, salads have a ton of health benefits that are simply undeniable. The Twilight Saga actor eventually learned to like salads. In one of his interviews, Kellan Lutz told that he was fortunate to have Hercules filmed in Bulgaria as the country has plenty of fresh produce and good quality vegetables.

Quitting sugar

Kellan Lutz had to let go of his sugar cravings while preparing for the character of Greek God Poseidon. It was not an easy choice as Lutz had to let go of many favorite things like chocolate bars, gummy bears and desserts. However, the Greek God managed to let go of the mortal cravings and make healthy eating a core value of his lifestyle.

Typically, Kellan Lutz’s full day of eating consists of three clean meals. He ensures a sufficient protein intake through boiled eggs, lean protein sources like chicken, salmon, lean cuts of beef etc. Steamed vegetables, green juices and fresh salads provide vitamins and minerals.
