Mitchell Hooper Begins Training for 505-kg (1,113.3-lb) Deadlift World Record Attempt Following Encouraging Words from Eddie Hall

Mitchell Hooper is looking to deadlift 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) at some point in 2025.

Mitchell Hooper is an incredibly versatile Strongman athlete, capable of dominating nearly all events that he encounters. He has already broken some records but has now set his sights on one of the most coveted achievements in the sport. Specifically, Mitchell is looking to deadlift 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) to set a new All-Time World Record. In turn, he has officially started training to lock out the incredible lift.

Mitchell Hooper was also encouraged by the former World Record holder and the first man to deadlift half a ton, Eddie Hall. Like many, Hall also recognized Hooper’s greatness and had nothing but kind words when he was asked whether the Canadian Strongman is capable of deadlifting 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds).

Eddie Hall also referred to Mitchell Hooper’s 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) deadlift attempt from the 2024 World Deadlift Championships. Namely, despite not focusing on his deadlift too much, Hooper managed to get the record-breaking weight up to his knees, leaving everyone in shock. It was immediately clear that he would be one of the greatest contenders for the record if he dedicated a bit more time to prepare.

“I think of everyone I have seen so far; I’m not sure if Mitch has been the closest, but I would say that Mitch has been the most comfortable with that weight in his hands. Although he didn’t lift it, he got it up to his knees and didn’t seem to struggle. If he worked on his speed off the floor a little bit more, I think the 505-kg (1,113.3-lb) would fly.

If there is any man on the planet that can come and do it under the proper conditions, it is Mitchell Hooper… I think Mitch can deliver under any conditions… You know when someone has that self-confidence and they don’t have to say it. He just has that aura about him,” said Eddie Hall.

Mitchell Hooper Starting The ‘Road to 505’

Mitchell Hooper has started a series on his YouTube channel and dubbed it the ‘Road to 505’, signaling that he has started training for a record-breaking attempt. He performed a deadlift session and went into more detail about his desire to lock out 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds).

The first training session of Mitchell Hooper’s ‘Road to 505’ consisted of multiple exercises. Obviously, the first one was the deadlift, where the Canadian athlete built up to a heavy raw double. After multiple warm-up sets, Hooper managed to lock out 926 pounds (420 kilograms) for two reps, using only a lifting belt and a pair of lifting straps. He then moved on to accessories, performing multiple sets of hip thrusts and hamstring curls.

“So that was probably the best deadlift session of my life. There was a cue that I was working on in Vegas with Ed Coan, but it just wasn’t clicking the first time that I used it. It only took me one more session to hit an All-Time PB at an All-Time low effort.

I am preparing for a max raw deadlift at the Rogue Invitational. If I can pull 1,000 pounds (453.6 kilograms) at the Rogue Invitational without a deadlift suit on, I can 100% guarantee that I am in form to hit 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) straight away.”

Apart from Hooper, Hafthor Bjornsson also has goals of breaking his own World Record. So, it seems that the two athletes are trying to find the right competition that would allow them both to attempt the lift. They have not yet come to a decision, but Hooper promises that it will take place in 2025.

“When this will be is to be determined. We are still working with the promoters, Thor and I, talking to different people and finding out where this is most viable and how we can make this happen. One thing I can guarantee is that in 2025 this record will fall.”

Mitchell Hooper revealed where his desire to break the deadlift record originates from. Well, he has already achieved more in Strongman than many athletes managed to do across a decade of competing. So, he is excited to go after some more achievements that are not in his possession yet.

“I am the only Strongman to ever win all four major titles, and I have the Axle Clean & Press World Record. So, thinking of my career and what I want my career to turn into. I don’t want to have the most titles of all time… I’ll continue to work towards it, but it doesn’t mean as much to me.

But what is along the lines is doing something that no one in history has done before. We know that the deadlift is one of the most common gym exercises… It is the most primal obvious way to test yourself — just how much weight can you pick up from the floor to your waist.”

Mitchell Hooper has only been competing for about two and a half years so far, but he has already accumulated 13 victories from his 22 international appearances. Those include the World’s Strongest Man, Strongest Man on Earth, Arnold Strongman Classic, Rogue Invitational, and many others. Moreover, he has stood on the podium at every competition except his WSM debut in 2022, which is simply mind-blowing.

‘The Moose’ will now take on a new challenge, breaking Hafthor Bjornsson’s 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) Deadlift World Record, which he set back in 2020. For the past four years, dozens of athletes have been attempting to beat the mark, but no one has been successful. So, it remains to be seen if Hooper can shock the community once again and prove that he is potentially the strongest man in history.
