Joe Rogan’s very popular podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” welcomed elite Strongman competitor Robert Oberst, where they discussed the dangers of the deadlift and Oberst’s career in Strongman.
“If you’re deadlifting to be a better deadlifter fine. If you’re not doing that for deadlift sake then don’t f–king do it. The risk to reward ration is a joke and a lot of people aren’t going to like that I’m saying that.”
Oberst explained athletes who get paid to perform avoid doing the deadlift since it’s so dangerous for the lower back and the risks are not worth it.
But that conversation was brief and then Oberst talked about how he was a security guard when his friend introduced him to Strongman. Well, not long after his friend convinced him to try it, Oberst log pressed more than the Amateur World record on his first day of training.
