Russel Orhii has finally gotten back to competing in powerlifting and did not disappoint. After more than a year of not stepping foot on a platform, Russel finally took part in the 2024 AMP (Powerlifting America) Classic Open Nationals, which occurred on March 14-16 in Nevada. He competed in and won the 83-kilogram weight class, continuing where he left off a long time ago. Moreover, Russel displayed his dominance by unofficially breaking the Raw Squat & Total IPF World Records.

Squat

Coming into this competition, Russel Orhii has shared some incredible lifts from training, with a lot of them coming in the squat event. So, everyone was expecting a lot from him at the 2024 AMP Classic Open Nationals, and he immediately proved that he came to win with an effortless squat opener of 310 kilograms (683.4 pounds).

With how smooth his first attempt went, Russel Orhii decided to jump to 325 kilograms (705.5 pounds) for his second attempt. This was already heavier than the IPF World Record. So, having successfully completed it, Russel proved that he is in incredible shape.

That was not the end, though, as Russel Orhii demolished a 330-kilogram (727.5-pound) raw squat on his third attempt. With this, he Unofficially broke the current U83KG IPF World Record, which is currently officially held by none other than Russel himself.

Russel Orhii spent the past few years competing in the USAPL, but he decided to come back to the IPF near the end of 2023. However, he was not allowed to compete for a few months because of the IPF regulations, but, luckily, his suspension ran out before the 2024 AMP Classic Open Nationals.

Now, since Russel Orhii won the Nationals, he has secured a spot for himself at the 2024 IPF World Championships. He has already won this most prestigious powerlifting competition two times in the past (2019 and 2021). So, he is now looking to reclaim his title in 2024.

If successful, Russel Orhii will further improve his resume, which consists of 20 sanctioned powerlifting appearances, including 19 victories. So, in the entirety of his career so far, Russel has only once failed to win a competition. Hopefully, his winning streak will continue for a long time to come.
