Russel Orhii decided to come back to the IPF last year, during which he managed to secure an invite to the 2025 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. He was excited to make his debut at the competition and got the chance to do so on January 26th. Orhii competed as a U83KG weight class athlete and was definitely one of the standout athletes. Most notably, Orhii set new raw squat and total IPF World Records.

Russel Orhii’s squat prowess has always been something that many powerlifting fans have marveled at, as his power combined with incredible technique frequently results in one-of-a-kind feats of strength. That was the case at the 2025 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, where Orhii opened up with a 307.5-kilogram (677.9-pound) squat. It did not take long for Russel Orhii to step into World Record territory, as he exceeded it on his second attempt of 323 kilograms (712.1 pounds).

Russel Orhii knew that he was still far from his one-rep max on the squat. So, with one attempt left, he decided to take a risk and go for 338 kilograms (745 pounds). Russel put on a lifting belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps, after which he took the stage. Full of confidence, he wasted no time, immediately taking the barbell and going for the lift. Orhii quickly descended to the required depth and got back up at quite a quick pace as well. Smiling while waiting for the confirmation of the lift, Russel could not contain his joy once his World Record was made official.

*Russel Orhii held the previous U83KG IPF Raw Squat World Record of 321-kg (707.7-lb). He set that record at the 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Russel Orhii’s Performance Overview

Russel Orhii missed just one attempt throughout the entire competition, and even that was based on a technicality. Orhii lifted his final deadlift, but the judges gave him red lights, thus making his lift unsuccessful. Unfortunately, that ended up costing Russel the podium finish. On the other hand, he still managed to set a new Raw Total World Record of 870.5 kilograms (1,919.1 pounds).
