Athletes that are interested in competing in the CrossFit Games will be able to choose equipment or no equipment. Those choosing the no-equipment option will need to do the workouts at home, in a park, or wherever is most convenient for them.

Dave Castro and other organizers of the competition know that the global Covid-19 pandemic has placed irrevocable restrictions on the games. By adding a no-equipment option, anybody that wants to can participate.

Competing in the CrossFit Open

In an earlier announcement, Dave Castro hinted at the new accessibility changes.

“The last year has been tough for everyone, so we want to kick off the 2021 season with a compelling and accessible Open that can meet the needs of every athlete in the world. Whether you’re surrounded by people in your local gym, working out alone at home, or listening to friends cheer over Zoom, the Open will energize you and remind you why you are part of CrossFit.”

Those using the equipment option will need the following in their home gym:

  • Jump Rope
  • Pull-Up Bar

The equipment-free option includes workouts that do not require equipment. or any kind of gear. Athletes can perform workouts wherever they like. More details are expected in the coming weeks.

The sport of CrossFit is definitely not for the faint of heart, but it’s more accessible to every inspired athlete this year.

The challenge of CrossFit lies in challenging your personal best and personal self, regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. This year, anyone can participate in the CrossFit Open, whether they have the equipment to do so or not.
