The 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic took place from February 28 – March 1 in Columbus, Ohio. It consisted of six events in total, which is more than we saw in previous years. However, the change in format did not have an effect on Mitchell Hooper, as the Canadian Strongman ended up winning the competition for the third year in a row.
The first day saw a lot of incredible feats of strength. It all started with Hafthor Bjornsson’s incredible Elephant Bar Deadlift, as he locked out over 1,000 pounds (453.6 kilograms). Lucas Hatton then stole the spotlight on the Overhead Gauntlet. Finally, Mitchell Hooper took the win in the Frame Carry and secured the overall lead going into day two.
While he did not win any additional events on the second day, Mitchell Hooper was consistent across all three tests of strength, managing to extend his lead over the rest. So, he ended up defending his title once again, despite the great efforts that Lucas Hatton and Hafthor Bjornsson put in throughout the entire weekend.

Day Two (March 1st) Event Recap
Event Four — The Big Jerk
The Big Jerk was one of the most highly anticipated events at the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic, as many athletes had shared huge numbers during their prep for the competition. The aim of the event was to establish a one-rep-max on the overhead press. However, contrary to the usual format, this time, the athletes were picking up the barbell from the blocks, eliminating the motion of them cleaning the bar from the floor. So, the sole focus was placed on overhead pressing as much weight as possible.

Lucas Hatton has claimed his second event win in one of the most intense battles at the entire 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic. All of the athletes were exceptional, but Lucas was the clear standout. He ended up winning with a lift of 247 kilograms (544.5 pounds). However, he has lifted more in training and was confident to lift more in the competition if that was needed.
“Whatever they were going to put on that bar, I was going to do more,” said Lucas Hatton in his post-event interview.
Mitchell Hooper and Trey Mitchell tied for second place with a lift of 242 kilograms (533.5 pounds). They utilized completely different techniques, as Hooper performed the lift with a split jerk, while Trey’s movement was more of a push-press. However, both displayed immense power and ended up sharing the spot.

- Mitchell Hooper — 242-kg (533.5-lb)
- Trey Mitchell — 242-kg (533.5-lb)

Event Five — Timber Trial
The penultimate event of the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic featured a new format. Specifically, the athletes were tasked with picking up, carrying, and placing huge Logs onto a sled. They then had to move back to the starting position while dragging the sled with them. The goal was to finish all aspects of the workout in the shortest time possible.
Hafthor Bjornsson claimed his second event win and attributed it largely to his bodyweight, since it helped him massively in the sled drag. So, it was not a surprise that he beat everyone else by multiple seconds. The win meant a lot to him, helping him secure his podium spot overall and further boosting his confidence.
Mitchell Hooper finished in second place, extending his overall lead over Lucas Hatton, who was basically the only man threatening him for the title. Hooper finished the event in 35.29 seconds, putting his infamously powerful legs to good use.
Tom Stoltman did not have the weekend he hoped for, but he did make it into the top three of the Timber Trial event. Like Hafthor, Tom is an extremely big athlete, which helped him drag the sled over the line in just 37.37 seconds. Lucas Hatton was slightly slower than Tom, finishing just 0.2 seconds later.
- Hafthor Björnsson — 0:31.21
- Mitchell Hooper — 0:35.29
- Tom Stoltman — 0:37.37
- Lucas Hatton — 0:37.57
- Evan Singleton — 0:40.31
- Trey Mitchell — 0:43.10
- Austin Andrade — 0:45.60
- Nick Guardione — 0:51.42
- Bobby Thompson — 0:56.19
Event Six — Atlas Stone to Shoulder
The final event of the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic was the Atlas Stone to Shoulder, where the men chose between lifting one of two stones. The weight of the lighter one came out to 350 pounds (159 kilograms) and it was worth 1 point per rep. On the other hand, the heavier one brought in ten points per rep but weighed 405 pounds (183 kilograms). So, the goal was to accumulate as many points as possible.
Austin Andrade is another debutant at the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic who managed to secure an event win. He lifted the heavier stone to his shoulder four times, which made Arnold Schwarzenegger give him a standing ovation. As expected, no other man managed to match his effort, since his achievement was simply incredible.
Lucas Hatton was also surprisingly great in the final event, lifting the stone three times and wrapping up a simply incredible performance. With this, Lucas revealed that he is not only powerful but also an incredibly technical athlete.

Day one (February 28th) Event Recap
Event One — Elephant Bar Deadlift
The opening event of the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic was the Elephant Bar Deadlift. It was strategically placed first, as the athletes would be best rested and prepared at this time to establish an incredible one-rep-max. Each athlete had three attempts to do so, making their own decision of how much weight they wanted to lift on each one.
As many expected, Hafthor Bjornsson ended up on the top of the leaderboards in the deadlift event. His winning number came out 1,026 pounds (465.3 kilograms). After winning the event, Hafthor requested a 10–15-minute break in order to rest and then go for the record-breaking 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) pull. Unfortunately, he was unable to achieve the lift on the day but still walked away with 10 points.
Mitchell Hooper was the second-best deadlifter on the roster, locking out 991 pounds (449.5 kilograms) on his second attempt. After seeing the weights that Hafthor was pulling, Hooper decided to scratch his final attempt and settle for second place, thus preserving energy, which came in useful at a later point of the competition.
Bobby Thompson has always been recognized as one of the best deadlifters in the world, and he justified his status at the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic. He ended up pulling 986 pounds (447.3 kilograms) and thus beating Trey Mitchell for third place. Trey tried to outperform Bobby on his final attempt but was unable to do so.
- Hafthor Björnsson — 1,026-lb (465.3-kg)
- Mitchell Hooper — 991-lb (449.5-kg)
- Bobby Thompson — 986-lb (447.3-kg)
- Trey Mitchell — 981-lb (445.1-kg)
- Evan Singleton — 966-lb (438.2-kg)
- Austin Andrade — 961-lb (435.9-kg)
- Lucas Hatton — 926-lb (420.1-kg)
- Tom Stoltman — 861-lb (390.5-kg)
- Nick Guardione — 781-lb (354.3-kg)
- Maxime Boudreault — No Lift
Event Two — Overhead Gauntlet
The second event of the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic was the Overhead Gauntlet. It consisted of multiple parts, starting with the athletes overhead pressing a 113-kg (249.1-lb) Dumbbell and a 125-kg (275.5-lb) Stone. After completing the first two implements, the athletes got a choice to lift either a 175-kg (385.8-lb) Log or a 195-kg (429.9-lb) Log for reps. However, it is important to note that lifting the heavier log was worth 10 points, while a rep on the other three implements was worth 1 point per repetition.
Lucas Hatton was making his debut at the competition, but it didn’t take him long to secure his first event win. His upper body strength proved to be spectacular, as he finished the first two implements and then locked out three reps on the heavier log, all within 1 minute and 45 seconds. So, he deservedly took the event win.
Trey Mitchell performed the same number of reps as Lucas Hatton but ended up being six seconds slower, which ended up pushing him down to second place. However, both Trey and Lucas were far ahead of all other competitors.
Mitchell Hooper rounded up the top three, having locked out one rep on the heavier Log. He struggled a bit with the clean portion of the lift, nearly collapsing while trying to get the implement up to his shoulders. However, his press was much more comfortable. Hooper recognized just how incredible Lucas and Trey were, so he decided to settle for third place.
- Lucas Hatton — 32 points (1:45.02)
- Trey Mitchell — 32 points (1:51.15)
- Mitchell Hooper — 12 points (1:07.94)
- Austin Andrade — 12 points (1:20.64)
- Hafthor Björnsson — 4 points
- Tom Stoltman — 3 points
- Evan Singleton — 2 points
- Bobby Thompson — 1 point (0:12.01)
- Nick Guardione — 1 point (0:28.34)
- Maxime Boudreault — 1 point (0:45.65)
Event Three – Timber Carry
The final event of the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic witnessed the return of the fan favorite challenge. The event in question was the Timber / Frame Carry. Like in the prior years, the athletes had to carry a 400-kilogram (881.9-pound) wooden frame up an inclined 11-meter long platform. It was both a test of speed and grip strength, as the goal was to hold on to the frame and cross the finish line in the quickest time possible.
Like last year, Mitchell Hooper once again came out on top in the Timber Carry. However, this time he ended up tearing a callus and dropping the frame mid-carry. Luckily, he managed to pick it back up very quickly and crossed the finish line in 10.77 seconds. This secured him the overall lead at the end of the first day.
Lucas Hatton had a slightly different approach, making sure not to drop the implement. So, he took small and quick steps, ultimately crossing the line in 12.37 seconds. In turn, Lucas wrapped up an incredible day of competing and making one of the best debuts ever.
Evan Singleton got off to a furious start in the Timber Carry, but he ended up dropping the Frame. This cost him a few seconds, taking his time to 17.91 seconds. However, this was still enough to place third, beating the likes of Austin Andrade and Hafthor Bjornsson.
Maxime Boudreault was on pace to have the fastest time in the Frame Carry, but he ended up tearing his bicep and dropping the implement just slightly in front of the finish line.
- Mitchell Hooper — 0:10.77 seconds
- Lucas Hatton — 0:12.37 seconds
- Evan Singleton — 0:17.91 seconds
- Austin Andrade — 0:18.94 seconds
- Hafthor Björnsson — 0:22.88 seconds
- Maxime Boudreault — 38′ 2″
- Nick Guardione — 33′ 10″
- Tom Stoltman — 12′ 6″
- Bobby Thompson — 8′ 0″
- Trey Mitchell — 0′ 1″

Mitchell Hooper defended his title again, thus becoming the third person in history to win three consecutive ASM editions. The only people who did that before him were Zydrunas Savickas and Hafthor Bjornsson. So, Hooper continues to build a case for why he might in fact be the greatest Strongman athlete to ever compete in the sport. He will now continue training, as he wants to reclaim the World’s Strongest Man title, as well as defend the Strongest Man on Earth and Rogue Invitational titles.
