With America’s obesity epidemic at an all-time high, conversations about weight gain continue to take center stage. In a recent YouTube video, bodybuilding veteran Lee Priest discussed obesity and explained why it’s not a disease.

As a Men’s Open Pro, Lee Priest was renowned for his shredded build, but like many of us, he loved to indulge in his favorite foods. While Priest wasn’t known for the cleanest diet in the world, his knack for transforming his physique and getting in shape was unrivaled. Even bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler was blown away by Priest’s contest appearances at a young age.

Having been a part of the fitness and bodybuilding communities for decades, Priest has no issues tackling controversial topics. Whether it’s details about past steroid cycles or misconceptions about the anabolic window, he doesn’t hold back in telling the truth. In his latest attempt to educate the public, Priest provided reasoning on why he believes obesity should not be considered a legitimate disease.

Bodybuilding Veteran Lee Priest Says Being Overweight Not a Disability or Disease

According to Priest, he’s bulked up but has never been obese, adding that if he did stop cardio and training he would eventually become overweight.

“I mean the obese people, have the whole pizza, and it’s like a what — they are big pizzas. Double this away from the table because of their stomachs, I’m thinking ‘Fuck,’ but it’s probably just genetic. They are fat because of their genes that’s all.”

“I’ve gotten bulked up but not obese obese, not hanging near your knees and stuff. I could do it [get fat]. It’d be easy to do it.”

“Yeah, you can. If you stop training and don’t do any cardio and if I just kept eating like I’m eating, putting the weight on wouldn’t stop because you’re not burning off what you’re eating so you’ll just get fatter and fatter,” shared Lee Priest.
At a certain point, Priest said people struggling with weight give up hope on becoming leaner.

“After a while you don’t care I guess, what feels crap would become feeling normal after a while, and then when you get really fat you’re like fuck it I dont’ care anymore, let’s see how fat I can get. That can be an accomplishment, like a professional fat-getter. I just sit here and eat.”

“I always trained but I ate crappy, but I’m not aiming to get obese. If I was I wouldn’t train. If I didn’t have sponsors now… and I sort am sick of it because of injuries and stuff, I could just not train anymore.”
Most importantly, Lee Priest highlighted that obesity doesn’t qualify as a disability or a disease.
“You really don’t see many hugely obese people with jobs. Why is that? Is that just because they are too fat they can’t stand up at work, or they can’t work, or there’s certain jobs they couldn’t do. If you’re super obese you probably wouldn’t be in a forklift. I’m talking obese obese people.

Most of them are on center link because their disability is they are fucking fat, which really isn’t a disability, but they call it a disease.

How is that a disease, putting food in your fucking mouth is not a disease.

Stop doing it, it’s quite easy. Don’t put as much in there. I reckon the percentage of people that have a thyroid problem, they might take certain medications that make them puffy, but really, I’d say 95% are just lazy cunts who don’t want to exercise or change their diets.”

Aside from talks surrounding obesity, Priest has called out fans who have taken issue with bodybuilding influencer Sam Sulek. While some fans have criticized Sulek’s high-carb diet of chocolate milk, cereal, and donuts, Priest wasn’t one of them. He believes Sulek has maturely conducted himself and stressed that anyone badmouthing him is jealous of his newfound success.

It’s never a quiet interview with Lee Priest, who continues to give back to the bodybuilding community in retirement. Even though some people struggle with thyroid issues which lead to weight gain, Priest contends that most overweight people simply lack motivation.
