Tragedy has engulfed the bodybuilding community, who are now mourning the death of Grant Henderson. Henderson was declared deceased at 55 years old; the news was shared on Instagram and first made public by Dave Palumbo at Rx Muscle.
Grant Henderson was more than a thriving IFBB Pro bodybuilder, he also commanded a huge audience outside of the stage, thanks to his contributions and work as an aspiring fitness model. At the time of this writing, the cause of death has yet to be revealed. However, his girlfriend announced on the GetBig.com forum that he was suffering at the hospital from ‘intestinal and blood clot issues’ before dying of a heart attack at 55.
While not confirmed to be authentic yet, here is a statement made by his girlfriend, which was published to the forum on July 19, 2024:
“Today is an unimaginably difficult day. I am not normally someone to broadcast my pain online, as I don’t feel that is the place for it. But I am trying to let as many people know as possible so that I do not have to repeat the story over and over. It is hard to just get it out once.”
“Grant passed away just a little after midnight today of a heart attack. He had been in the hospital with intestinal and blood clot issues. My heart is broken. For those of you who knew him well, his big heart and sense of humor were part of what made him so special. He was and will always be the love of my life. We had 13 years together, and there were many ups and downs.
We had endured countless health challenges and life struggles together. I could not have asked for a better friend and partner. Please be patient with me. If you do not hear from me, just know that I am overwhelmed and grieving. Thank you to everyone who has given him their love, support, and friendship throughout the years. He cherished that,” she shared.

Bodybuilder Grant Henderson Dies at 55, Bodybuilding Community Reacts
News about his passing circulated online after industry expert Rx Muscle’s Dave Palumbo shared what he knew on Instagram on July 20, 2024.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of IFBB Pro Grant Henderson. Born in Zimbabwe, Henderson turned pro in 1990 and would go on to become one of the top models in the space, gracing countless magazine covers and ad campaigns. We send our deepest condolences to Grant’s family, friends, and fans.” Rx Muscle wrote.
“One of the coolest guys you will ever meet Grant I will miss you forever. You were a great friend. I loved talking to you on the phone so many chats. We had rest in peace buddy. You were a true friend. I think about you all the time.” one commenter wrote.
“Remember him from the gold’s gym Venice beach CA. Nice and friendly person. RIP ” said another person.
“It’s very very sad to see. Whatever the reasons for his passing. Bodybuilding and its lifestyle isn’t sometimes the healthiest but nor is free climbing a skyscraper or base jumping. We all have risks that we take but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t give us joy and pleasure RIP and condolences to his family 🙏❤️” one user wrote.
Earning his Pro card in 1990, Grant Henderson carved out a respectable career as a bodybuilding standout. He was known for his shredded physique and was revered for his commitment to the sport, having laid claim to the 1993 Mr. Zimbabwe bodybuilding title.
Sadly, the bodybuilding community has seen shakeup after shakeup, with many athletes dying unexpectedly. Most notably, ‘The Danish Giant’ Kristoffer Berner tragically passed away at 43 years old, though a cause of death has yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, these concerns have fans wondering if bodybuilding is still a safe sport.
We at Fitness Volt extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Grant Henderson. He will forever be remembered for his physique and lasting contributions to bodybuilding.
