The 2024 World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championships are taking place from August 28th until September 9th, gathering some of the greatest prospects that the sport has to offer. Well, one man definitely seized his opportunity, setting multiple records to win a gold medal. That athlete was Elliott Sykes, who, at just 18-years-old, swept all Sub-Junior IPF World Records, alongside one other Junior World Record.

Elliott Sykes’ Full Performance

Elliott Sykes had seven successful attempts out of the nine that he had at his disposal. However, despite missing two attempts, he managed to absolutely crush all records, with the most notable being a 110-kilogram (242.5-pound) advancement in the U74KG IPF Sub-Junior Total World Record. So, it is no surprise that he won the gold medal with absolute ease.

Squat

The squat was the peak of Elliott Sykes’ incredible performance, despite the fact that he missed one of the attempts. Namely, following a smooth opener, Elliott immediately jumped up to 295.5 kilograms (651.5 pounds), aiming to break a World Record. However, he was not able to complete the lift with his second attempt.

In turn, Elliott Sykes decided to try again on his final attempt. This time, he managed to lock the lift out while also satisfying the judging criteria. In turn, he set new U74KG Junior and Sub-Junior IPF World Records.

  • 275 kilograms (606.3 pounds)
  • Unsuccessful — 295.5 kilograms (651.5 pounds)
  • 295.5 kilograms (651.5 pounds) — U74KG IPF Junior & Sub-Junior World Record

Previous U74KG Sub-Junior IPF World Record: 243-kg (535.7-lb) by Adam Daoudi (2023 EPF European Junior and Sub-Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships)

Bench Press

Fueled by the success that he achieved on the very first event of the competition, Elliott Sykes was determined to continue putting up his best performance. So, he managed to land a new competition PR in the bench press. It came out to 170.5 kilograms (375.9 pounds), meaning that it also marked a new U74KG Sub-Junior World Record.

  • 157.5 kilograms (347.2 pounds)
  • 162.5 kilograms (358.3 pounds)

Deadlift

Last but not least, Elliott Sykes turned to the deadlifts in order to wrap up one of the greatest sub-junior performances ever seen in the IPF. He first lifted 285.5 kilograms (629.4 pounds), which was not too difficult of a task for him.

In turn, Elliott Sykes decided to load 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds) for his second attempt. Once again, he locked out the lift without much struggle, becoming the first person in the U74KG Sub-Junior division to achieve this incredible milestone.

Elliott Sykes also tried to deadlift 312.5 kilograms (688.9 pounds) on his final attempt, but was unable to complete it. Regardless, his second attempt was enough to help him break the Sub-Junior Total IPF World Record as well.

  • 285.5 kilograms (629.4 pounds)
