The 2024 Giants Live USA Strongman Championships and World Deadlift Championships took place alongside each other on September 28th at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. They gathered over a dozen athletes, some of whom competed in both competitions, while others only performed the deadlift. In the end, Mitchell Hooper came out victorious in the USA Strongman Championships.

This was one of Mitchell Hooper’s most hard-fought victories, as he was pushed to the limits by none other than Trey Mitchell. Only three points ended up separating the duo, while they also tied for first place in two out of five events. So, it is safe to say that a new epic rivalry has been created.

When it comes to the World Deadlift Championships, no one managed to break Hafthor Bjornsson’s 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) World Record. In fact, four men locked out 470 kilograms (1,036.2 pounds), thus sharing the top spot. On the other hand, a female guest lifter, Lucy Underdown, managed to push the Strongwoman Deadlift World Record to 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds).

Event One — Max Deadlift / World Deadlift Championships (WDW)

The first event of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships was the Max Deadlift, also known as the 2024 World Deadlift Championships. So, the athletes competing in the full competition battled against each other, while those who came exclusively for the Deadlift World Championships had a goal of breaking the World Record.

In an incredible turn of events, four men ended up tying for first place in the Deadlift World Championships. Those men were Rauno Heinla, Mitchell Hooper, Ivan Makarov, and Trey Mitchell. All of them locked out 470 kilograms (1,036.2 pounds), but a special mention should go to Trey Mitchell, who did so without a deadlift suit.

Seeing that Heinla and Makarov were not competing at the 2024 USA Strongman Championships, Mitchell Hooper and Trey Mitchell ended up sharing the points for first place. Moreover, Mathew Ragg and Austin Andrade tied for third place with a 454-kilogram (1,000.9-pound) deadlift.

Note: The athletes who only appeared as part of the Deadlift World Championships did not affect the point system for the 2024 USA Strongman Championships in any way.

  • Rauno Heinla — 470-kg (Exclusively competed at WDW / No points)
  • Ivan Makarov — 470-kg (Exclusively competed at WDW / No points)
  • Mitchell Hooper — 470-kg
  • Trey Mitchell — 470-kg
  • Eddie Williams — 425-kg
  • Austin Andrade — 454-kg
  • Luke Stoltman — 400-kg
  • Mathew Ragg — 454-kg
  • Graham Hicks — 425-kg (Exclusively competed at WDW / No points)
  • Oleksii Novikov — 425-kg
  • Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou — 425-kg
  • Evan Singleton — 425-kg
  • Tom Stoltman — 400-kg

Event Two — Car Walk

For the second event of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships, the athletes performed the Car Walk. It was a movement similar to a Yoke Carry, but with a 450-kilogram (992-pound) car instead. The distance they had to cross was 20 meters, while the main goal was to finish in the quickest time possible.

Mitchell Hooper dominated the event, finishing the task in just 10.65 seconds. Although he faced some incredibly fast and agile athletes, no one could get even close to his result. So, he once again proved why he is one of the greatest Strongman athletes in history.

Eddie Williams, also known as the ‘Singing Strongman’ finished in second place with a time of 13.02 seconds. Another three seconds behind him was Trey Mitchell, finishing in third place, which was beyond impressive considering that he is coming back from an Achilles tendon tear.

  • Mitchell Hooper — 10.65 s
  • Eddie Williams — 13.02 s
  • Trey Mitchell — 16.87 s
  • Luke Stoltman — 17.37 s
  • Evan Singleton — 17.98 s
  • Austin Andrade — 18.05 s
  • Tom Stoltman — 25.14 s
  • Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou — 25.21 s
  • Mathew Ragg — 26.22 s
  • Oleksii Novikov — 28.53 s

Event Three — Dumbbell Press

Moving onto the third event, the athletes face a 100-kilogram (220.5-pound) dumbbell. They had to pick it up, lift it up to their shoulder, and then press it overhead with just one arm. They were given one minute to lock out as many repetitions as possible.

Two of the most prominent names at the 2024 USA Strongman Championships clashed again and the outcome was a tie for first place. Namely, both Trey Mitchell and Mitchell Hooper locked out seven repetitions, pushing each other to the limit but having to share the points.

Luke Stoltman displayed the upper body strength for which he is known, locking out just one rep less than the winning duo. So, he finished in third-place ahead of some notable athletes, such as Oleksii Novikov.

  • Mitchell Hooper — 7 reps
  • Trey Mitchell — 7 reps
  • Luke Stoltman — 6 reps
  • Oleksii Novikov — 5 reps
  • Austin Andrade — 5 reps
  • Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou — 5 reps
  • Eddie Williams — 4 reps
  • Mathew Ragg — 3 reps
  • Evan Singleton — Withdrew
  • Tom Stoltman — Withdrew

Event Four — Wrecking Ball Hold

The penultimate event of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships was the Wrecking Ball Hold. It has already appeared in a couple of competitions and always proved to be incredibly difficult for the athletes. That is because the athletes are forced to hold a 267-kilogram (588.6-pound) Wrecking Ball for as long as possible.

Oleksii Novikov came out with a surprising display of grip strength, holding the implement for over two minutes. He was one of the first men to perform the event, meaning that everyone else knew what the time to beat was. However, no one managed to get even close to Oleksii.

The incredible Mitchell Hooper found himself near the top of the leaderboard once again, finishing in second place with a time of 93.85 seconds. Interestingly, Mathew Ragg dropped his implement just one second before Hooper, thus having to settle for third place.

  • Oleksii Novikov — 127.89 s
  • Mitchell Hooper — 93.85 s
  • Mathew Ragg — 92.20 s
  • Eddie Williams — 87.07 s
  • Trey Mitchell — 75.42 s
  • Austin Andrade — 64.20 s
  • Luke Stoltman — 62.44 s
  • Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou — 34.69 s
  • Evan Singleton — Withdrew
  • Tom Stoltman — Withdrew

Event Five — Atlas Stones

The final event of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships was the Atlas Stones, where the athletes had a task of lifting and loading five progressively heavier boulders. The weight of the implements started at 120 kilograms (264.5 pounds) and reached 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds) with the final stone. The goal was to load as many stones in the shortest time possible.

Trey Mitchell claimed another event win, being the only person to lift all five stones in under half a minute. His exact time was 29.59 seconds, which was 17 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

However, the man who finished in second-place was Mitchell Hooper. In turn, he was officially crowned the winner of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships. Eddie Williams finished in third place, being the fastest out of the men who lifted four stones.

  • Trey Mitchell — 5 in 29.59 s
  • Mitchell Hooper — 5 in 46.66 s
  • Eddie Williams — 4 in 31.70 s
  • Luke Stoltman — 4 in 32.72 s
  • Austin Andrade — 3 in 21.35 s
  • Mathew Ragg — 2 in 13.81 s
  • Oleksii Novikov — Withdrew
  • Cheick ‘Iron Biby’ Sanou — Withdrew
  • Evan Singleton — Withdrew
  • Tom Stoltman — Withdrew
