Bodybuilder Ryan Terry Shares Upper Body Weighted Circuit Superset Workout to Achieve Grainy Conditioning for 2024 Mr. Olympia

Ryan Terry is fine tuning his physique with an intense superset-focused upper body training session just two weeks from the 2024 Mr. Olympia.

Men’s Physique champion Ryan Terry is on the verge of defending his title with the show taking place next weekend. In a recent YouTube video shared on October 3, 2024, Terry walked fans through his intense superset-focused training circuit to achieve elite-tier upper body conditioning for the 2024 Mr. Olympia competition.

Terry has been a force to be reckoned with in the Men’s Physique category, which is known to house some of the world’s most eye-catching and aesthetic beach bodies. After decades of training, Terry overwhelmed the Men’s Physique lineup at the 2023 Mr. Olympia to win first prize. En route to earning gold, he bested massive threats such as former champions Erin Banks, Brandon Hendrickson, and Jeremy Buendia.

Ryan Terry Refines His Conditioning With Intense Superset-Focused Workout Two Weeks From 2024 Mr. Olympia  

Aiming to represent Europe once again, Terry has attacked preparations relentlessly this season. He’s even trained alongside Classic Physique standout Wesley Vissers to prepare for his highly anticipated title defense. With the show approaching, he smashed through an intense circuit, which you can find below:  

  • Lat Pulldown & Seated High Cable Row – Superset
  • Seated Row Machine & Seated Cable Row – Superset
  • Chest Press Machine & Incline Machine Flye – Superset
  • Shoulder Press Machine & Standing Machine Lateral Raise – Superset
  • Bodyweight Dips & Dumbbell Hammer Curl – Antagonistic Superset
  • Cable Tricep Extension & Machine Preacher Curl – Antagonistic Superset

Ryan Terry’s emphasis on back training was key to his victory at the 2023 Olympia, and he’s now setting his sights on achieving a broader physique for 2024. He starts his workout with lat pulldowns and seated high cable rows to target his lats. To avoid tiring his grip, he uses lifting straps. Supersets let him build muscle quickly, saving time when he has less energy during prep.

By taking shorter breaks between exercises and slowing down his reps, Terry keeps his muscles under tension. This not only helps them grow but also lowers stress and anxiety, which is important for big competitions like the Olympia. On chest day, he uses machines to focus on full movement and separate the chest muscles.

When working on shoulders, he targets the front and side delts while still engaging the rear delts from pulling exercises. He finishes with partial reps after doing full reps to push his muscles even more. Using antagonistic supersets, which work opposite muscle groups, helps him be efficient by letting one group rest while the other works.

Supersets combine two exercises in rapid succession which can help save time while providing the lifter with increased intensity. They are an effective workout method for helping bring out the finer details in a physique. Terry also gave his thoughts on how he approaches visualization. 

“It’s the 60th anniversary this year and I remember turning Pro and I wanted to go see my competition and visualize where I wanted to be in the next stage of my career” Terry said. 

“What today consisted of was an upper body weighted circuit. The reason for that is I’m nearly at stage weight. I’m 203 pounds fasted this morning. My stage weight is 202 pounds and I’m having a big re-feed day today. So I wanted to deplete all my glycogen get everything out of my body and just see where we’re at fully pumped or as much as I can at my stage weight.”

Terry will face a stacked lineup when the curtains rise in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Buendia won’t be present due to injury, the same cannot be said for former champions Banks and Hendrickson, who are both eager to present all-time best physiques.

It should be noted that Terry has faced some backlash from fans as of late. He confessed to some of his images on social media being photoshopped and issued a public apology. It remains uncertain how this could affect his performance moving forward.
