Bodybuilder Fabiony Sylvain has decided to compete at the 2024 Mr. Olympia despite facing medical challenges. In a recent Instagram post shared on October 9, 2024, Sylvain revealed that he will compete at the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia despite suffering from colon cancer, explaining that he has lost liters of blood each time he uses the restroom.
The 2024 Mr. Olympia is underway as athletes check in for the event, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 10-13. With less than a day until competitors take to the stage, the bodybuilder’s hard work, determination, and sheer gumption are on full display. For Fabiony Sylvain, the Olympia means more than simply winning a medal.
As an orphan who faced several hardships during his childhood, Sylvain has fought to become the athlete he is today, and his love for the sport shines through in both his training and his positive mindset. While he is currently struggling with the effects of colon cancer, Sylvain hasn’t allowed this to get in the way of his dreams.

“Man, here I am. But I’m imperfect. With thousands of defects to repair. But with the same gains, the gains I’ve had since leaving the orphanage at 11 years old.
The same desires that I felt to progress and do something with myself even while sleeping on the street and in the parks. Feeling the love that you didn’t have when you were a child. Leaving so much pain behind. And overall, I feel more alive than ever” Sylvain shared.
Sylvain emphasized the reason why he is competing at the Olympia is for himself, especially after all he has gone through to prepare.
“For many, this is just a simple skill. For me, this is not a deception for me, it is not a success for me. This is love. I’m feeling love for myself. Even fighting cancer in my colon. He fought every day in this preparation. Meanwhile I lose liters of blood every time I defecate. Fight me with my body but my heart is strong, fight me with my stomach. But my will is unbreakable, thanks to God. I’M SURE YOU FEEL GOOD ♥️”
Several bodybuilders have stepped away from competing at the 2024 Mr. Olympia. Recently, Tonio Burton announced that he would not be participating in the Olympia, as he and his coach believe he needs to take time off from PEDs. While Burton made it clear he isn’t suffering from any injuries or health concerns, he still wants to ensure his blood work remains within normal ranges.
Men’s Open standout, Nick Walker, also revealed that he would not compete at the 2024 Mr. Olympia. He and his coach explained that Walker’s physique was not where they wanted it to be. Nick Walker stated that his body needs a break from the accumulated stress from last year’s preparation and this year’s as well.
