The 2024 Ms. Olympia (Oct. 11) contest was the most anticipated Women’s Open bodybuilding match in a very long time. In the last four years, Andrea Shaw entered the Olympia as the favorite to win the title. However, things were different this time around.
Angela Yeo’s victory at the 2024 Rising Phoenix Arizona Pro sent shockwaves through the bodybuilding world and signaled to Shaw that winning her fifth Big O title wouldn’t be a cakewalk. Yeo beat Shaw by a single point and promised to extend the lead at the grandest stage of bodybuilding.
Shaw didn’t take this defeat lightly. She took decisive action, relocating from Detroit to Phoenix and enlisting a new coach to refine her physique in six weeks for the Ms. Olympia.
True to her word, Yeo showed up with a much better physique at the Olympia, and many experts believed she would win her maiden Olympia title. However, Shaw improved her physique just enough to keep herself in the driver’s seat.
Shaw’s blend of muscle size, symmetry, balance, separation, and conditioning ensured Yeo was playing catchup to her the entire time. Shaw’s physique improved as the night went on, and she brought a much better package to the Finals, ultimately closing the door on Yeo’s ambitions of winning the coveted gold medal.
While Shaw claimed her fifth-consecutive Ms. Olympia title, Yeo settled for a silver medal.

Shaw’s victory at the 2024 Olympia makes her the fourth most-decorated Ms. Olympia champion after Iris Kyle (10 titles), Lenda Murray (eight titles), and Corinna Everson (six tiles).
Background & History
Full Name: Andrea Shaw (Women’s Bodybuilding Competitor) (Full Profile) | ||
Weight | Height | Age |
180–190 pounds (77–87 kilograms) | 5’5” (165.1cm) | 40 years |
Date of Birth | Era | Nationality |
Dec. 18, 1983 | 2010, 2020 | American |
Shaw was born on Dec. 18, 1983, in Detroit, MI, and was into gymnastics and competitive cheerleading growing up. She switched to bodybuilding after feeling burnt out from the two sports. And as they say, the rest is history.
Interestingly, Shaw started her bodybuilding career in the Figure division but took an eight-year break from competing to focus on her studies. She returned to the stage in the Women’s Physique division, earning her pro card at the 2018 NPC Nationals.
Although Shaw saw success in the Women’s Physique category, she felt she was getting too big for the division. She switched to the Open division after consulting with the judges and veteran bodybuilders like Lenda Murray and Alina Popa.
Since moving to the Open division, she has won every contest she has entered except three — including the 2024 Rising Phoenix Pro.
Shaw became the first bodybuilder to win the Ms. Olympia title in 2020 after it was reintroduced at the Olympia and has held onto the throne ever since.
Going Forward
The 40-year-old Shaw shows no signs of slowing down. Her success over the last five years has made her the gold standard of the Women’s Open division, and other athletes look up to her physique as the benchmark.
Shaw has announced that she will return to the 2025 Olympia, aiming to win her sixth-consecutive O gold medal, and we cannot wait to see the package she brings to the grandest stage of bodybuilding.
