Hafthor Bjornsson has always aimed to break the Deadlift World Record, and this season his drive to do so is stronger than ever. This can be seen in the most recent announcement made by Giants Live, who confirmed that Hafthor will be taking part in the 2025 World Deadlift Championships. The competition will take place on September 6th in Birmingham, England, where Hafthor will have the chance to achieve another historic deadlift.
Ever since Hafthor Bjornsson set the 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) Deadlift World Record back in 2020, dozens of athletes have been gathering annually in an attempt to pull even more weight. The best stage to do so turned out to be the World Deadlift Championships, offering an incredible stage, auditorium, and an electrifying atmosphere. Multiple editions of the competition have taken place already, but no one was able to exceed Hafthor’s feat of strength.
So, Hafthor Bjornsson decided to join the lineup and demonstrate his abilities. The 2025 World Deadlift Championships will go side-by-side with the 2025 Giants Live Strongman Open. Many athletes compete in both competitions, but it is unclear if Hafthor will exclusively be performing the deadlift or completing the full show as well.

Hafthor Bjornsson will be appearing in a Giants Live show for the first time since 2019, when he took part in the Europe’s Strongest Man competition. It is important to note that there have reportedly been some disagreements between Hafthor and Giants Live, which surfaced in the lead-up to his boxing match against Eddie Hall. So, while it was unlikely that we would ever see Hafthor in a Giants Live competition once again, his appearance has now been officially confirmed.
Hafthor Bjornsson has won a World’s Strongest Man, 3x Arnold Strongman Classic, and 5x Europe’s Strongest Man competitions already. However, he is now looking to add the World Deadlift Championships trophy to his cabinet, potentially along with another Deadlift World Record.
The news came at a time when Hafthor Bjornsson was preparing to take the stage at the 2025 Eisenhart Black Competition for his 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) Deadlift World Record attempt. However, Hafthor has mentioned his desire to deadlift 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds) in a future appearance, which aligns well with the deadlift championships.
