Soledad O'Brien Admits Being Wrong About CrossFit

Award winning journalist Soledad O’Brien was once not a fan of CrossFit. However, it appears that view has recently changed.

O’Brien is a massive media personality, known currently for her highly regarded weekly talk show Matter of Fact. However, she has also been a part of various projects with CNN, as well as HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel. Over the years, she has become a well-respected person in the world of media.

That is why, when O’Brien spoke about CrossFit recently, it made a difference. The fitness sport has been struggling for years to earn acceptance among the general public. Although, it has largely gained mainstream appeal, there are still some who view it as strictly an activity for extremely fit men.

However, in a recent Twitter thread, Soledad O’Brien said that her perception has changed about the sport, and now she looks at it differently. In the post, she explains that at one point, she was not a big fan of CrossFit. Nevertheless, she began to grow a newfound appreciation for the sport, realizing it is something that all kinds of people can enjoy.

This was her post:

And I was wrong: lots of women, lots of moms, lots of squats! (Argh). Lots of flexibility work. I’ve really grown to love it. But most of all what you realize is: you’re stronger than you think you are. So, in case you’re not sure: you are stronger than you think you are. ❤️ 2/

“I was not initially big fan of @CrossFit when I started. Basically I was getting help for my knee from @mobilitywod. Seemed like a bunch of very strong and fit dudes killing themselves lifting weights. But I’ve been at it for a year (with knee surgery in between!)

And I was wrong: lots of women, lots of moms, lots of squats! (Argh). Lots of flexibility work. I’ve really grown to love it. But most of all what you realize is: you’re stronger than you think you are. So, in case you’re not sure: you are stronger than you think you are.”

This glowing recommendation from Soledad O’Brien means a lot for the efforts to legitimize CrossFit. While it has come a long way, with more voices like hers, the public opinion will continue to change.
