Bodybuilder Akim Williams is ready for another massive year in the sport. On January 13, 2025, he discussed competing against Carlos Thomas Jr. at the 2025 Arnold Classic and laid out his goal of placing in the top three at the prestigious event.
Mass monster Akim Williams has mastered nutrition and training intensity to cement himself as a Men’s Open frontrunner. At the 2024 Mr. Olympia, Williams delivered one of his all-time best looks, which earned him a 10th-place position against the greatest in the world.
With a penchant for competing often, ‘The Beast’ took his talents to the 2024 Romania Muscle Fest Pro. He took part in a heated showdown against Brazilian star Rafael Brandao, though took second place in the end. However, he perfected his peak at the Bigman Weekend Spain show to clinch an early qualification for the 2025 Olympia. Now, his sights are set on an epic performance at the annual Arnold Classic.

“Yeah, that’s definitely my goal for the Arnold, a top three spot,” shares Akim Williams.
He also refused to underestimate Carlos Thomas Jr., whom he credited as a genetic freak.
“Anything is possible. I’ve seen what he [Carlos Thomas Jr.] did for his last outing at a Pro show. Carlos is a genetic freak man.
It all depends on what kind of package he brings to that show. Anything is possible. He has the muscle. It just about what type of condition and everything he brings. He’s not lacking any of the muscle. He could probably be up there.”
According to Williams, his preparations have differed greatly from the past thanks to working with bodybuilding coach Chris Aceto, who will also guide Derek Lunsford moving forward.
“I think it’s the fact that he [Chris Aceto] is so available. In the past, I had coaches who would disappear and they would leave me to do my own thing and try to figure out things,” said Williams.
“That has been different. Chris is very reliable. I remember even when we were in Spain the time difference was six hours ahead and he would set his alarm clock to wake up at a certain time so I could send him updates and he could respond and everything like that.”
While cash incentives are nice, Williams listens to his body before deciding if he’ll compete at contests.
“If my body is tired I’m going to listen to my body. Then, you’re just doing more harm than good. You don’t want to show up to a show when you’re not 100 percent and everybody is looking at you.”
If Akim Williams wants a spot on the Arnold Classic podium in 2025, he’ll have a daunting lineup of challengers to get through. Aside from squaring off against favorites Samson Dauda, Derek Lunsford, and Andrew Jacked, there are other notable threats eager to make statements such as Brandon Curry, William Bonac, and Thomas Jr.
Akim Williams has a knack for peaking brilliantly in contests, and he could make some unsuspected waves on stage in due time. Don’t miss his next performance at the 2025 Arnold Classic set for February 27 to March 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
