The stacked Men’s 212 Bodybuilding lineup at the 2025 Mr. Olympia just took a hit. On July 17, 2025, frontrunner Angel Calderon Frias revealed that he ruptured his triceps tendon, forcing him to pull out of the Olympia this October.
Frias, known for his bursting fullness and massive legs, has been a consistent threat in the 212 bodybuilding division. In 2022, Frias placed as high as second on the prestigious Olympia stage, behind former two-time champion Shaun Clarida.
Each and every season, Frias proves he’s more than capable of earning the Olympia crown. In 2023, he took third place behind Clarida and “The Prodigy” Keone Pearson. Frias was optimistic about his 2024 season, but he found himself in third again, struggling with the strengths of Clarida and Pearson.
Having last competed at the 2025 New York Pro, where he took runner-up to Francisco Barrios Vlk, Frias would have been warmed up for the Mr. Olympia. And though Frias had his sights set on a dominant performance in a few months, that will have to wait.

Frias must bounce back from an untimely triceps tendon tear. It required surgery, which he made it out of successfully. With that in mind, his attention has shifted away from preparations and toward recovery.
Angel Calderon Frias Missing 2025 Mr. Olympia Due to Triceps Injury: ‘I Won’t Have Time to Be 100%’
In the recent Instagram post, Angel Calderon Frias updated fans on why he won’t make it to the 2025 Mr. Olympia. He sustained a triceps injury and recently underwent surgery.
“Important news ⚠️
After several days of seeing that my arm injury wasn’t improving much, I had an MRI yesterday to see exactly what the status of the injury was and it turned out to be a rupture of the triceps tendon.”
He won’t be at 100 percent for the Olympia and doesn’t want to show up any less than his best.
“Fortunately, I had surgery today and my recovery phase begins… very sadly I won’t have time to be 100% for this year’s Mr. Olympia and you know that you can’t go to the Olympia at 80%… so there’s no choice but to wait until I’m 100% recovered to start again WITH MORE DESIRE THAN EVER and show that next year will be much better because for me these bumps only make me stronger and stronger,” said Angel Calderon
Even though Frias won’t be seen in action, the 2025 212 Olympia is still garnering excitement among fans. There’s been talk about Keone Pearson possibly moving into the Men’s Open, but as of now, he shared that he plans to continue dominating the 212, starting with a second successful title defense.
Angel Calderon Frias will be missed onstage. Our team at Fitness Volt wishes him a fast and full recovery!
