While bodybuilders often lack strength as their preparations heat up, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Chris Bumstead. In a recent Instagram post shared on August 20, 2024, Bumstead demolished 150-pound incline dumbbell bench presses for slow and controlled repetitions.
His game face is on, the weights are heavy, and his will to be the best is fueling his every move. Chris Bumstead intends to silence any doubters (if he has any) ahead of the 2024 Mr. Olympia competition. Accustomed to adversity, Bumstead has built a successful career off of never giving up, having shown as much at last year’s marquee event, which he won despite a torn lat.
Cbum has long considered himself his biggest opponent but will face numerous challenges if he hopes to nail down a sixth Classic Physique Olympia title. In addition to pushing down thoughts on retirement, the Canadian champion will have to contend with the surging Dutch powerhouse, Wesley Vissers, who picked up back-to-back victories at the 2024 Arnold Classic Ohio and UK contests.
And that’s not the only threat gunning for the gold trophy, as Ramon Rocha Queiroz has something to prove after being upset by Vissers in Ohio. Meanwhile, Urs Kalecinski continues to grow into the weight cap and promises to be bigger and better than ever. Fans aren’t counting out former two-time Olympia Breon Ansley, who will be back in action after picking up steam with a win at the 2024 Dubai Pro.

Chris Bumstead Smashes Slow and Controlled 150-Lb Incline Dumbbell Bench Press Reps in Prep for 2024 Mr. Olympia
While in the middle of Mr. Olympia prep, Chris Bumstead showed off his impressive strength while demolishing 150-pound incline dumbbell bench presses, encouraged by his coach Hany Rambod.
“Taking the 150’s for a spin…” Rambod wrote.
The countdown for the 2024 Mr. Olympia has begun; there are only seven weeks until showtime. The Classic Physique roster lost a notable competitor recently after former two-time Arnold Classic titleholder Terrence Ruffin decided to sit out of Olympia this year. He mentioned that he needed time to grow into the weight cap, revealing that an elbow injury influenced his decision to take a step back.
This will be Bumstead’s first year competing at Olympia as a father. Some have questioned his commitment to training and desire to be the best since he’s hinted at retiring from the sport by the time he turns 30. Some veterans of the sport, such as Dennis James, believe this could be the final year we see Bumstead compete. He also predicted that this would be the best version of Chris Bumstead we’ve ever seen.
It’s safe to say Dennis James might be right. After throwing around 150-pound dumbbells for reps, Bumstead’s strength, focus, and mind muscle connection look to be on a new level. Will he pick up a sixth Classic Physique Olympia title this year? We’ll find out soon.
