Bodybuilder Chris Bumstead is making the most of his time away from the stage. In a recent YouTube video, Bumstead revealed his off-season bulking diet for 2024, which consisted of four meals and one shake, totaling 3,807 calories.
“My metabolism obviously isn’t as high as I want. This is the beginning of my bulk, I want to get huge but I don’t want to get fat. So I’m going to be showing you guys what I’m eating, probably four to five meals a day depending on how my day goes.”
As a Classic Physique superpower, no one has been able to stop Chris Bumstead’s onslaught as a top-tier IFBB Pro. His ability to marry different components of the sport together such as dryness, muscle volume, and detailed separation has led to him becoming one of the most successful champions of the league.
He has earned five Classic Physique Olympia titles from 2019-2023, with fans beginning to question who might stand a chance against the Canadian great. While Ramon Rocha Queiroz and Urs Kalecinski have been named ‘Cbum’s’ biggest threats for the last few years, a new contender has emerged in Wesley Vissers, thanks to the Dutchman’s breakout performance at the 2024 Arnold Classic.

Check out Bumstead’s full day of eating below:
Meal 1
A day of eating wouldn’t be complete without breakfast, and Bumstead likes to consume a significant one, comprising 1,000 calories.
“I’ve got some potatoes, eggs, avocado, and turkey bacon. I don’t eat this every day I kind of rotate through breakfasts because I haven’t been in a good routine. It is what it is. This meal comes out to 1,000 calories, hefty in the fat, I cooked everything in butter today.
Courtney’s got me hooked on the old butter chain of cooking stuff in because why the hell not. It’s nature’s anti-pan sticker and it tastes absolutely amazing. Loaded up on some grass-fed butter.”

Meal 2
Meal-prepping options have become a go-to for Bumstead, who is often on the go, tending to various business ventures.
“I got a nice little MegaFit custom meal. They make these sweet potato fries that are literally just sweet potatoes with seasoning on them. If you see any meals like that, they are always good, sometimes they have this garlic mayo dip.”
“I have about 250 grams of cooked weight sweet potato fires, then 220 grams of chicken breast, they also grill their chicken breast so it’s absolutely fire and I don’t have to cook it,” adds Bumstead.
“This meal comes out to 577 calories, about 50 grams of protein,” says Bumstead.

Meal 3
For his second-meal prepped option, Bumstead enjoys bison and brown rice pasta.
“Again, this is not the most glorious full day of eating but it’s real, it’s what I typically eat. Bison, brown rice pasta, some red sauce, 600 calories, 40 grams of protein, throw it in the microwave for a few minutes and you’re good to go.”

Meal 4
Bumstead consumes chicken, rice, zucchini, and carrots with guacamole for his fourth meal.
“Meal number four, it’s some good old chicken, rice, zucchini, and carrots,” said Bumstead. “This is going to be cooked in a little butter, don’t know how much. I put some Whole Foods guacamole on this too just for a little bit of extra flavor. I’ve been on a huge avocado kick lately.”
He explained why eating bigger meals benefits him throughout the off-season.
“Olive oil, another simple meal, not eating a whole lot right now just trying to get in my protein. This meal is 837 calories and about 57 grams of protein.
I’ve been eating higher amounts of protein typically I would eat like 180-200 grams but because I’m only eating four to five meals a day I’m having like 250 grams, so this is 250 grams of chicken, 250 grams of rice, and probably like 100 grams of guacamole. That’s just the best way to get protein in.”

Even though fans couldn’t be more excited to see him back on stage, the decorated champion has flirted with the idea of an early retirement. Bumstead has made it clear he intends to step away from the sport before reaching the age of 30, having reaffirmed his stance on a number of occasions, adding that ‘bodybuilding isn’t a forever thing for me.’
Time will tell if Chris Bumstead is more focused on retirement rather than defending his Classic Physique Olympia title. The 2024 Mr. Olympia will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 10-13 to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
