The Mr. Olympia brand continues to grow from year to year, and fans have taken notice, especially in Sin City. In a recent video, president Dan Solomon revealed that he and the company have received the key to the city of Las Vegas in honor of the Mr. Olympia’s 60th-anniversary event.
Having already touched bases with Derek Lunsford, the reigning Mr. Olympia, Dan Solomon has promised a historic and state-of-the-art Mr. Olympia production when the annual event returns. Fans will welcome the best bodybuilders in the world from October 10-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada as the show returns after its blockbuster event in Orlando, Florida last year.
In addition to 11 IFBB Pro League bodybuilding divisions lighting up the stage, the Mr. Olympia Weekend will host several athletic contests, spanning different sporting disciplines. With a staggering $400,000 reserved for the Men’s Open winner, the contest continues to change lives each year with awe-inspiring bodybuilding action.

“We all wake up every day and we’re so devoted to this lifestyle, so devoted to advancing the sport. All of us in our own ways contribute something. This was a huge win for everybody, we’re so proud of it.
The entertainment capital of the world looked at what we’re doing and said we want to recognize you. We want to celebrate this partnership. What a day, I’m very proud,” shares Dan Solomon.
Event announcer Bob Cicherillo believes it was long overdo considering that Las Vegas has served as the home of Mr. Olympia for several years.
“Listen, as it should be because the Olympia has been predominantly in Vegas for the last 20 years with the exception of a few in between there. Vegas just screams Olympia. We’ve been talking about this for many many years that when you come to Vegas, it’s Olympia time, you can smell it, you can feel it in the air, you can feel the electricity, and people come from all over the world into Vegas.”
According to Cicherillo, the organization plans to add an extra layer of excitement to the Mr. Olympia show. He mentioned that this year’s Olympia will be a ‘hybrid’ of bodybuilding action and entertainment.
“It’s the entertainment capital, and entertainment is something we’re looking to improve on because bodybuilding inherently, a bodybuilding competition isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but we can make it exciting.
That’s what I know you guys have been striving to do. The changes that you guys are going to see this year, yes, it is a hybrid, you need entertainment with the sport of bodybuilding. That’s what makes it interesting,” explains Bob Cicherillo.
Aiming to elevate production and captivate the imagination of fans, Dan Solomon teased big plans for later this year.
“The people who made the decision to honor us and recognize us today, they mentioned that. They said they paid attention to what we’ve done to make this entertaining. They noticed that and I know everybody has their own idea of what the best version of a bodybuilding contest looks like and I respect that. Everybody’s opinion counts.”
“We’re here today being celebrated being recognized because of the work that we’re doing to elevate production, create a more visceral experience, to get people the chance to feel something that maybe they didn’t feel years ago. You’re right, I think Joe [Weider] would be proud,” said Solomon.
Dan Solomon and the Mr. Olympia organization join the UFC and CEO Dana White as one of the latest recipients of the prestigious key to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. This special recognition is rare, marking the moment as groundbreaking for the sport of bodybuilding.
Don’t miss the annual Mr. Olympia competition taking place later this year. Athletes have until September 15 to ensure a qualification ahead of the biggest event of the year!
