Even at 61 years of age David Ricks is still a legitimate force to be reckoned with in the world of powerlifting. He proved that yet again recently, with an intense training session ahead of his next meet.
With four decades of experience under his belt, Ricks is a true legend in the sport. He has been all over the world, competing in the biggest competitions in the sport without slowing down, or even taking a substantial break in competition.
Despite the fact that he is in his sixties, David is still doing some incredible things. He has shown time again that he has the ability to still lift heavier weight than most people half his age, and he makes it seem effortless.
Currently David Ricks is gearing up for his next meet, the 2021 RAW Nationals. This is one of the biggest powerlifting contests of the year, and he has hard at work in the gym to compete for the first time in 2021, and the first time in more than a year.
This has led to some impressive training performances, and he shared one to Instagram recently that has fans buzzing. While the 622lb deadlift for four reps and 407lb bench for five reps were crazy to see, the most impressive set was the 655lb squat for five reps.
“Here are 3 videos of my recent workouts. Squats 655 LB x 5 reps, Deadlift 622 LB x 4 reps, and Bench 407 LB x 5 reps,” Ricks wrote.

Working toward the RAW Nationals in the open 93K Division. Extremely blessed to be able to do this at 61 years. Thankful for the great support at Boynton Barbell Center.”
This performance is crazy to see, especially for someone the age of David Ricks. However this is only made more impressive when it is realized that this is not the best squat training session he has had during this contest prep.
A few weeks earlier, he shared another update from a high rep training session. This one saw another squat set of five reps, but this time the weight was bumped up all the way to 661lb, which still did nothing to slow him down.
It will be exciting to see David Ricks competing again at the 2021 RAW Nationals, which is currently scheduled for June 14th-19th, in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is always entertaining to watch on the platform, and he is looking prepared to deliver a big showing at this meet.
