Derek Lunsford aims to steal the show at the 2023 Mr. Olympia and dethrone his fellow teammate Hadi Choopan. In a recent post on Instagram, Lunsford shares an insanely massive physique update just weeks out from taking the stage, leaving many wondering if he has what it takes to be the next Mr. Olympia.
Lunsford has made a name for himself over the last few years with his symmetry, proportions, and fullness. Previously holding the 212 Olympia title in 2021, Derek Lunsford made waves as he guest posed at the 2022 Pittsburgh Pro which paved the way for him to accept a special invite and compete at last year’s Mr. Olympia in the Men’s Open division.
Derek Lunsford battled with 300-pound mass monsters in the Open, but he held his own and secured the second-place spot, which left the bodybuilding community thrilled with his potential ceiling in the category. As of late, Lunsford is focusing on bringing his biggest build yet and teased his progress with a brutal pull-day workout.
Lunsford is feeling the pressure to win more than ever following his announcement that he is expecting a baby in 2024. Enthusiastic about his latest training regimen, Lunsford believes with the right improvements, he can take out his teammate Choopan as well as Nick Walker and Samson Dauda.

Derek Lunsford Displays Massive Back And Shredded Chest In Recent Physique Update
Given Lunsford’s strong back, many are curious if it will be enough this time to stop the hard dry muscle maturity of the Iranian champion.
In his recent physique update via Instagram, it is easy to see why Lunsford boasts such a confident attitude heading into the Mr. Olympia competition. Sporting a sculpted back coupled with shocking density, Derek Lunsford is out for blood as he prepares to dominate the stage.
Along with his most recent physique update, Derek Lunsford locked in his nutrition to preserve his health and vitality before his next contest. Lunsford believes it serves him best to stick to whole foods and eliminate any extra condiments and sweeteners.
Aside from “The Persian Wolf,” the former 212 star will have a who’s who of Open talent to deal with. All season long, “The Mutant” Nick Walker has indicated that Choopan will not be his main adversary on stage in November. Instead, Walker insists the Sandow trophy will be decided following a showdown between himself and Lunsford.
On top of that, plenty of bodybuilding veterans have begun offering predictions for the ‘super bowl of bodybuilding.’ Recently, former eight-time Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman and Samir Bannout backed Lunsford to beat Choopan. Meanwhile, other faces of the sport such as Chris Cormier have extended their support for Choopan coming out on top.
Between his hard work in the gym and his dedication to eating healthy, Derek Lunsford is one of the biggest threats hitting the Men’s Open stage. Should he match Choopan from the front as he did from the back last year, Lunsford believes this is his show to win.
