Dorian Yates hasn’t lost his legendary strength in retirement. On January 20, 2025, he showed off his power, maxing out the pec deck weight stack for reps at 62 years old.
As a six-time Mr. Olympia champion, Dorian Yates dominated the sport throughout the 1990s with his insane muscle mass and dry conditioning. Utilizing training principles adopted by Arthur Jones and Mike Mentzer, Yates was able to best even the most formidable opponents on stage, including Shawn Ray and Kevin Levrone.
Despite retiring, Yates continues to push the limits, maintaining the same intensity and discipline that fueled his dominant reign. While his training is no longer the hardcore routine of his Mr. Olympia days, he’s found new ways to keep his body in peak condition. He revealed that Pilates, a practice he admitted to mocking Jay Cutler about, is now part of his regimen, helping him stay flexible and mobile as he focuses on staying healthy.

“Not bad for an old guy who hasn’t been training.”
Yates explained that due to his shoulder and tricep injuries, he is unable to do pressing movements so he instead uses the pec deck when training his chest.
“Rolling back the years with a full stack on the pec deck at @m13gym
Due to my shoulder and triceps injuries, I can’t do pressing movements with any kind of weight so to train my pecs, pec deck is what I do nowadays.
The love for the iron never truly leaves you!💪” Yates explained.
It seems nothing can slow Dorian Yates down, including his recent total right hip replacement. Following his operation, Yates revealed that he was healing quicker than expected and anticipated being able to walk normally within four to five weeks.
“I had my 7 week check in this week with my surgeon and he’s really happy with my progress which is great! I think another 4-5 weeks and I’ll be more or less back to normal 🙏” .
However, nothing is standing in Yates’ way when it comes to working the upper body. At 62, Dorian Yates is still able to max out the pec deck machine while making it look easy. Even after all these years, he is still pushing the limits and setting the standard in the fitness community, proving that his strength is as timeless as his legacy in bodybuilding.
