Bodybuilding legend Franco Columbu was put to rest earlier this week. Video of the ceremony shows his friends and family gathered to mourn their loss together, and enjoy the memories left behind.
Franco Columbu was a true pioneer in the bodybuilding world. He tragically lost his life while swimming in his hometown of Sardinia, Italy. This sad news came August 30th, a few weeks after Franco turned 78.
Subsequently, when news broke of his passing, people around the world mourned his passing. Moreover, his close friend and long time training partner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, released a heartwarming statement to Franco.
However, on Tuesday, September 3rd, the friends and family of Franco Columbu gathered to say their final goodbyes. In a video that was posted to YouTube, you can see his casket being removed from a church. As that happens, the hundred or so people standing outside erupted in applause.

This is a really touching moment, celebrating the life of this wonderful man. The way all the people standing outside applauded for him, really gives you an idea how important Columbu was. He essentially changed the game for those of a short stature, competing in bodybuilding. In fact, he managed to capture the title of Mr. Olympia, and Mr. Universe, along with many more championships.
However, Columbu changed the lives of people, even outside of bodybuilding. He had a well respected career as a chiropractor as well. In addition to having his own practice, he went on to write a few books on the matter. Franco quite frequently talked about his love of helping others with their health. More than that, he was highly regarded among his clients.
Franco Columbu will surely be very missed. His presence will live on in the memories of those who knew him. Additionally, his legacy will continue through the generations of bodybuilders in the future.
