The New Year is here and the IFBB Pro League is cracking down on inactive competitors. On January 19, 2025, the organization announced that inactive athletes of over three years will have their Pro status revoked and must win a Pro qualifier to regain it.

The latest announcement is a tentative solution to inactive IFBB Pros who have held this status but have not competed for years. Should an athlete opt not to renew their IFBB Pro status, they can remain inactive for up to three years. After the third year, inactive athletes will have their Pro status revoked, which must be reestablished by winning a Pro qualifier. This action could lead the sport to see a greater number of athletes take to the stage.

IFBB Pro League Announces New Rule: Inactive Competitors Revoked of Pro Status After 3 Years, Must Requalify

According to the new rules shared on the official IFBB Pro League website, an active member who chooses not to renew will automatically become an inactive member for up to three years. During that time, active and inactive members must adhere to the IFBB Pro League rules and policies.

“An Active member who chooses not to renew his or her membership automatically becomes an Inactive member and may remain Inactive for up to three years. Both Active and Inactive members must abide by IFBB Professional League rules and policies.”

If competitors choose not to become active within the three-year period, their IFBB Pro status will be revoked. However, they will have the opportunity to reestablish it by winning a Pro qualifier. This means we could see highly credentialed IFBB Pros lose their status and be forced to compete against newer athletes at Pro qualifiers.

“If a member does not become Active within the three-year period, the member’s IFBB PRO status will be canceled and can only be reestablished through a Pro Qualifier.”

Anyone who has held an IFBB Pro status before 2023 and hasn’t renewed their membership will have until the last day of 2025 to do so, otherwise, they lose their Pro status.

“Athletes who held IFBB PRO status before 2023 and who have not renewed their membership have until December 31, 2025 to become Active members; otherwise, their IFBB PRO status will be canceled and can only be reestablished through a Pro Qualifier.”

The IFBB Pro League has undergone some drastic changes as of late. Despite promises not to add another Pro division to its ranks, the organization reversed course and decided to introduce a new Fit Model class. This new category will be featured in the NPC in 2025 with its emergence in the IFBB Pro League set for 2026.

This new development could mean a more busy and active IFBB Pro League schedule for all Pros. What do you make of the recent change? Let us know in the comment section!
