Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler is one of the most iconic names in the world of bodybuilding. Inspiring countless individuals with his astonishing physique over the years, Cutler has experimented a lot to figure out what works best for his body when it comes to training and nutrition. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler revealed the shift in his training philosophy and preferences over the years since his retirement.

Jay, who retired from the sport nearly a decade ago, maintains a consistent workout routine. Having undergone a remarkable transformation for his ‘Fit for 50’ journey just before his birthday, Cutler recognized that his fitness objectives have evolved from his prime years. Jay Cutler is now prioritizing maintaining his physique and staying active, a change from his earlier emphasis on gaining size throughout his successful career. This shift in perspective has influenced his approach to training.

Cutler opens up about his favorite body part to train

‘The Comeback Kid’ says that while he was primarily training with the intention of muscle hypertrophy back in the day, his focus has now shifted to exercising for conditioning now. He disclosed that he did not like training arms while he was competing professionally. Jay now admits that as he aims to enhance his muscle conditioning, he’s discovering a newfound pleasure in training his arms too.

“I always talk about arms and how I hate training arms, believe it or not, it’s become one of my favorite body parts to train because I’m actually starting to feel the movements a lot more,” Cutler said.

Jay Cutler highlights that his shift in approach stems from his earlier bodybuilding days when his main emphasis for arm workouts was lifting heavy and using forceful movements to achieve maximum muscle size, given his significant physique during that period. While size remains a crucial factor for bodybuilders, maintaining a lower body fat percentage is equally vital to showcase muscle fibers and enhance vascularity.

Cutler, who is renowned for his ‘Quadstomp’ concluded by disclosing that his favorite body parts to train during his competitive years were back and legs. In his prime, Cutler found a special liking for training his back and legs, as these muscle groups played a vital role in showcasing a massive physique on stage. Even though Cutler never believed in training super heavy, he did train pretty intensely which helped him to become a mass monster.

“Remember at a heavier body weight, I was throwing so much weight. I was always trying to get bigger and bigger arms. Now it’s more about conditioning. It’s not only about size, I’ve actually enjoyed training the bi’s and tri’s I tend to train those together. But I would also say I still enjoy doing the favorites when I was winning, and that was back and legs.”

In the end, Cutler admits that even though he enjoys a grueling arms day now, training back and legs will always have a special place in his heart.
