ATHLEAN-X founder Jeff Cavaliere isn’t short on solutions when it comes to bringing up lagging body parts. In his latest effort, shared via YouTube on December 13, 2024, he broke down how to build a bigger chest with cable crossovers, revealing that his advice is especially useful for ‘non-responders.’ 

Jeff Cavaliere is a decorated trainer with a firm grasp of exercise. He implements science-based approaches to help individuals reach new levels of fitness. Boasting over 13.9 million YouTube subscribers, his content isn’t just highly watched, but packed with value following years of experience testing methods inside the gym.

Cavaliere has worked alongside notable names in fitness and health, including neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman. From revealing the best training splits for muscle growth to laying out a dieting framework to stay ‘lean for a lifetime,’ he continues to offer his followers useful advice for bettering their everyday lives.

“If I told you right now to contract your chest as hard as possible, what would you do? Would you go like this? [Cross arms above head] Probably not. Would you go like this? [Cross arms in front] You know, maybe 30 percent of you. But without even knowing it, a lot of you would just go like this, right? [Crosses arms below chest]

You go here, and the reason for that is because the natural contraction of the chest is going to occur at this high to low angle because of the orientation of the chest fibers in that abdominal head of the chest” Cavaliere explained.  

Cavaliere emphasized that this method is great for individuals who struggle to feel their chest as well as ‘non-responders.’ 

“So, if you have a hard time feeling your chest or you’re kind of a chest non-responder, make sure you’re going down while you do the exercise, so when you go down again, chest still goes backwards, but the overall angle of the crossover is from this high to low position. That’s going to help you feel that a lot.”

Jeff Cavaliere is highly respected for his methodical and comprehensive approach to training. This led him to analyze the effectiveness of bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Golden Six’ workout routine. He offered tips and modifications for individuals of varying fitness levels.  

It’s not just specific exercise mechanics that Jeff Cavaliere teaches. He’s also gone in depth about the importance of using light weight and high volume to optimize gains while training at the gym. He underlined three critical factors for stimulating muscle growth: progressive overload, eccentric overload, and using lighter weight with higher reps.
