Jeremy Buendia might need extra time away from the stage following his latest setback. In a recent Instagram post, Buendia revealed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon after a freak running accident. As of this writing, he is unsure if surgery will be required and admits his training plans have changed.
From 2014-2017, Jeremy Buendia dominated the Men’s Physique Olympia thanks to his thin waist and massive back. Having long cemented his status as one of the greatest competitors in the category, fans have come to appreciate his competitive nature and candid personality.
His highly anticipated comeback became a major talking point last year and Buendia didn’t disappoint on the 2023 Olympia stage. After a five-year hiatus, Buendia proved himself in eighth place, showing that the division hadn’t moved on without him. While he had ambitious plans for 2024, it appears his aspirations are on hold due to this latest injury.

“I got another mountain to climb ⛰️
–
Today I did some running & Right off the start, I planted off my left foot and I felt a pop. I knew right away it was my Achilles.
–
I don’t think it’s really hit me yet but this is what I’m up against for the foreseeable future.
–
I’m gonna fight through this just like everything else I’ve faced.”
As soon as Buendia meets with his orthopedic surgeon, he and his team can determine the next course of action.
“Alright guys, I just got back from the hospital got the CT scan results back and unfortunately, I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon. So, I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to figure out what’s next. It sucks. It’s crazy.”
In light of the recent events, Buendia still plans to train his upper body and for the lower body, he intends to incorporate leg extensions only.
“I was not waking up this morning expecting this to happen it was like a freak thing. Just running a little bit and pop. I’ll probably be in a walking boot. I got to see if I’m going to have surgery.
I’ll still be able to train upper body and probably do some leg extensions. But yeah, that’s what we’re up against right now. Got to roll with the punches and keep moving forward. That’s all I can do,” shares Jeremy Buendia.
Bodybuilders took to the comment section to extend their best wishes to Buendia on his road to recovery:
It’s been a busy few months for Buendia. In addition to his bodybuilding goals for this year, he found out that he was expecting his second child. He recently hopped back on testosterone and was hopeful about his future, having gained 11 pounds in just two weeks. Buendia believes at 100 percent he could defeat the newly-crowned Men’s Physique Olympia Ryan Terry.
Although Buendia had planned to earn his spot on the 2024 Mr. Olympia stage, he does boast a lifetime qualification. The length of his recovery will factor into his next contest, though for the time being, question marks surround his bodybuilding season.
