In his last appearance on stage, Jonathan Cayco had a less favorable outcome than expected. This happened at the 2022 IPF World Championships, as Cayco failed to defend his title. Cayco, however, has seemed more motivated than ever since then, mostly as evidenced by his Instagram posts. Nine months later, Jonathan decided to participate in the 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships and managed to perform exceptionally well. He set new Bench Press and Total IPF World Records, earning some money in the process as well.
Jonathan Cayco was not the only record breaker at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, as Jesus Olivares, Amanda Lawrence, and Bonica Brown also exceeded some World Records. All of them played a part in making this one of the greatest competitions ever.
Squat
Coming into the competition, Jonathan Cayco was aware of the fact that a difficult job is ahead of him. Since there were numerous world champions competing in the event, he knew that a massive squat would serve him well throughout the remainder of his competition. So, he decided to open up with a 285-kilogram (622.8 pounds) squat, before moving up to 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds) for his second attempt. That ended up being his heaviest, as he missed his final attempt which was 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) heavier.

Bench Press
Having earned the nickname Mr. Bench, it was obvious that the second event of the day would be the dearest to Jonathan Cayco. His first attempt was already a massive 230 kilograms (507 pounds), which made it clear that he would be going for a historic bench in the later two lifts. So, after breezing through 239 kilograms (526.9 pounds) for his second attempt, Jonathan also managed to set a new IPF World Record with a 241.5 kilograms (532.4 pounds) bench press on his third attempt.
The previous record was also held by Jonathan Cayco, having bench pressed 238.5 kilograms (525.8 pounds) at the 2022 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Despite his amazing performances in the first two events, Jonathan Cayco still had to excel on the deadlifts as well. He started off with a relatively light 320-kilogram (705.4 pounds) pull, but jumped up 17.5 kilograms (39.6 pounds) for his second attempt. In order to finish in third overall, Cayco still had to add a few more pounds. So he went for a 342.5-kilogram (755 pounds) deadlift on his final attempt and succeeded.

Finally, Jonathan Cayco also outperformed the IPF Total World Record by 5.5 kilograms (12.1 pounds). Chance Mitchell previously held this record, having accumulated weight of 878.5 kilograms (1,936.8 pounds) at the 2022 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.
