Rubiel “Neckzilla” Mosquera is one of the hottest names in the Open class following his latest performance. In a recent Mutant and the Mouth Podcast, Nick Walker, who is also known for his freak factor, gave his opinion on the rise of Mosquera and discussed some of his stronger poses.
Known for his massive neck and quads, Rubiel Mosquera’s entry into the IFBB Pro League was filled with excitement. Hailing from a rival federation, Mosquera took a similar path to Michal Krizanek, having switched to NPC before quickly earning his Pro card.
A day after winning the EVLS Prague Pro Amateur, “Neckzilla” gambled on himself en route to his first Pro show. While he took third at the 2023 EVLS Prague Pro, he made a statement in his debut, holding his own against Michal Kirzanek and third-place 2023 Olympia finisher Samson Dauda.
In the wake of Mosquera’s performances, bodybuilders have begun comparing him to names such as Ronnie Coleman and Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay. The latest bodybuilder to take a look at Mosquera was Nick Walker, who recently bowed out of 2023 Olympia due to hamstring and calf injuries.

Nick Walker Gives First Impression of Rubiel “Neckzilla” Mosquera
Speaking with Mosquera’s coach Chris Cormier, Walker was excited to welcome him to the Open class.
“Rubiel! He doesn’t speak English [for the podcast].”
“I’ve talked to Chris about him. He doesn’t speak much English,” says Walker. “Yeah that’s him bro [the original Neckzilla].”
“Jeff King was Neckzilla,” says Jose Raymond.
According to Jose Raymond, Mosquera has time and room to grow as he’s only 28 years old.
“How old is he, does anyone know?” asks Walker.
“28,” says Raymond.
Observing “Neckzilla” on stage, Walker acknowledged that he had strong side poses.
“God damn!” Walker said. “He’s made huge improvements. Look at his face.”
“That looks better [his side triceps pose]. That one looks good. Samson’s not in it but I also think this is Samson’s weakest pose too.”
“That’s a good pose for him [side chest].
Although Walker appreciates Mosquera’s physique, he thought Nathan De Asha deserved to place ahead of him in Prague.
“Like I said, I’m a fan dude, I think he’s fucking awesome,” shared Walker. “Yeah, [third] I’m surprised he beat Nathan but.”
Nick Walker hasn’t been the only high-caliber Men’s Open Pro to examine the strengths and weaknesses of Rubiel Mosquera. Samson Dauda, who shared the stage with “Neckzilla,” was blown away by his freak factor, sharing that he “has it in spades.”
Meanwhile, bodybuilding veterans Chris Cormier and Dexter Jackson have also discussed the 28-year-old mass monster’s future. When comparing Walker’s and Mosquera’s front lat spreads, Chris Cormier said he would give the nod to his Colombian pupil.
With time and a solid coach on his side, there’s no telling how far Rubiel Mosquera will take his IFBB Pro League career. After just one Pro contest, it’s evident the bodybuilding community is excited to see him back on stage competing against the best.
