Nonso Chinye was one of the greatest powerlifters in the Sub-Junior division. However, he had to transition to the Juniors this year, having turned 19-years-old. So, Nonso competed at the 2024 World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championships. He was a part of the 120-kilogram weight class, which he ended up winning with ease, having managed to set new raw Deadlift and Total IPF Junior World Records.

The deadlift is Nonso Chinye’s greatest event without a shadow of a doubt, and it has been for multiple years now. So, his opener of 355 kilograms (782.6 pounds) was already enough to seal him the victory and was heavier than any of his rivals managed to achieve a pull of such weight.

Consequently, Nonso Chinye made a decision to go for the U120KG IPF Junior World Record on his second attempt already. However, he did not just beat the record but instead loaded 385.5 kilograms (849.9 pounds) to exceed it by 7 kilograms (15.4 pounds). What is even more impressive is that Nonso made easy work of the deadlift, displaying perfect technique while combining the conventional stance and a mixed grip.

With how easily his second attempt moved, Nonso Chinye decided to make another huge jump for his final one, hoping to deadlift 411 kilograms (906 pounds), which would be the IPF Open World Record at the time. His endeavor was impressive, getting the bar up to his knees but unable to get to lockout. So, his second attempt of 385.5 kilograms (849.9 pounds) remained the U120KG IPF Junior World Record.

Nonso Chinye’s Full Performance

This was 21.5 kilograms (47.4 pounds) heavier than the former U120KG IPF Junior World Record, giving him another incredible achievement.
