The hits keep coming for bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman. In a post shared via Instagram on July 7, 2025, it was revealed that Coleman will need an additional surgery for an underlying health issue after being hospitalized with an infection in his bloodstream.

Coleman remains one of the most successful and recognizable faces in the sport. While he won eight Mr. Olympia titles in his prime, his heavy and intense training took its toll. He’s been subject to over 13 surgeries for his spine, neck, and back, some of which involved complications.

Coleman has presided in a wheelchair for years, unable to walk without assistance. However, with consistent stem cell therapy treatments and physical therapy, ‘The King’ believes he’ll be walking again — no help needed — by January 2027.

Recently, Coleman was unexpectedly hospitalized and diagnosed with an infection in his blood. Updates on his condition have reassured fans of his well-being, but now it appears he has an unrelated issue that requires surgery in the next few days.

In one update made to Coleman’s Instagram account, it was revealed by his doctors that they were working diligently to identify the source of his infection:

In the latest update, Coleman’s condition was described as “serious but stable, with continued signs of gradual recovery.”

“At this time, Ronnie’s overall condition remains serious but stable, with continued signs of gradual recovery. His medical team is still actively working to identify the source of the infection, which can take several days to confirm through testing.”

During his hospital visit, doctors identified an additional underlying health matter that required surgery:

“During a recent round of evaluations, doctors identified an additional underlying health matter that will require a surgical procedure. This procedure is expected to take place in these coming days, and the medical team is confident in their approach as part of Ronnie’s broader care plan.”

Despite these findings, they remain hopeful about Coleman’s path to recovery.

“We remain hopeful and encouraged by Ronnie’s resilience, and we are deeply grateful for the outpouring support from around the world. Please continue to keep Ronnie in your thoughts and prayers as we await the next stages of his recovery. With heartfelt gratitude, The Coleman Family,” the statement read

The 61-year-old bodybuilding icon hasn’t slowed down since stepping away from the stage. Coleman owns and operates his own supplement brand, the Ronnie Coleman Signature Series. He also routinely travels the globe for meet-and-greets and seminars for his aspiring fan base.

Having shaped the sport for decades, Coleman’s impact on bodybuilding is second to none. Our team at Fitness Volt wishes his friends and family prayers and strength during this time.
