Just when fans thought Classic Physique couldn’t get more exciting, Sam Sulek recently expressed interest in the growing division. In a recent interview, Sulek hinted at a foray into the Classic Physique category within a year to a year and a half.
It didn’t take long for the fitness and bodybuilding community to embrace Sam Sulek. His consistent gym content coupled with his witty attitude took the world by storm, and thanks to his massive physique at only 22 years old, fans have accepted him wholeheartedly for his honest and down-to-earth demeanor.
Even though followers and even IFBB Pros have raised questions about his unconventional eating habits, it’s clear Sulek knows how to sculpt a top-level physique. From full days of eating to introspective thoughts on training intensity, he offers his audience full access, yet one question had never been answered: when would Sam Sulek compete should he try his hand at bodybuilding?
Finally, to celebrate the latest 2024 Arnold Classic UK bodybuilding event, he took part in a seminar and not only revealed which division, but gave a timeline on when fans might see him step on stage.
Sam Sulek Hints at Future in Classic Physique, ‘Probably Within a Year, Year and a Half’
Despite popular belief, Sulek is targeting the Classic Physique division, not the Open class.
“Yeah, so the plan is going to be Classic. I’ve keep hearing words I’m trying to gain weight into the Open but you got to remember, a real Open bodybuilder… that’s a lot of mass.”

“I think I’m kind of big but when I train with them, I’m like oh jeez, I’ve got some room to grow. So, I think the plan at first is going to be Classic. But if I get big enough that I don’t fit the weight class, then just move up.”
Sulek assured fans that they might see him on stage in a ‘year, year and a half.’
“You gotta remember there is no way imaginable in my vocabulary where I’m going to say I’m too big that’s just impossible. But probably within a year, a year and a half, we’ll just have to see,” shares Sam Sulek.
Sulek briefly broke down his ‘old school’ style of training and explained why sometimes the best results come from hard work over scientifically backed methods.
“If you want to go to the gym and get the best results that you can, you would want to try to do every set absolutely perfectly and stimulate every fiber in the most scientifically-backed way, but just by thinking about it with such a complex thought process you’re totally losing sight that you just need to get really hyped up to a Metallica song and just go crazy.”
Before transforming his physique, Sulek admits he took inspiration from motivational YouTube videos.
“It was this YouTube channel, just a compilation of real motivational videos like that serious kind of somber music. I think with guys like that… I don’t want to say they are unapologetic, but they are very honest about how they are obsessed with the gym.
The people that I like the most that I can resonate with the most, are the guys that I know if there were no cameras, no expos… they would still be trying to squat until their nose bled and throw around as much weight as possible and go hard. Guys like that, I sort of pick up from.”
If Sam Sulek proceeds with his bodybuilding career and tests himself in the Classic Physique division, he will likely encounter a few massive threats. While the reigning five-time Classic Physique Olympia king Chris Bumstead has revealed that he won’t compete past 30, there is still a chance we see Bumstead and Sulek battle against each other before the champ’s swan song.
Meanwhile, Sulek would have other Classic Physique stars to deal with, such as Arnold Classic Ohio and UK champ Wesley Vissers, Urs Kalecinski, and Brazil’s Ramon Rocha Queiroz, who are all established talents at the top of their games.
The future is bright for Sam Sulek and the IFBB Pro League’s Classic Physique division. Fans look forward to seeing Sulek document his journey into the Pro ranks on the horizon!
