2021 Rogue Invitational

2021 Rogue Invitational will take place from October 29th to October 31st at the Dell Diamond stadium in Round Rock, Texas. The three-day event will also feature Rogue Invitational’s inaugural strongman contest apart from the CrossFit competition.

The event will be streamed live on the Rogue Fitness YouTube channel and CBS will air the edited feature of the 2021 Rogue Invitational in three parts later in 2021. Part 1 of the event will air on November 13th at 1 PM ET while parts 2 and 3 will air on December 25th at 3 PM and 4 PM, respectively.

20 male and 20 female athletes will participate in the CrossFit competition at the 2021 Rogue Invitational. The roster will include reigning champions in the male and female division, Patrick Vellner and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr. Tia-Clair is the four-time fittest woman on earth. The inaugural Rogue Invitational strongman contest will feature ten elite strongman competitors including four-time WSM Brian Shaw and reigning WSM champion Tom Stoltman.

CrossFit Competition

2021 Rogue Invitational CrossFit competition will have the largest prize sum for the winner in all CrossFit competitions other than CrossFit Games. The participating athletes will walk away with a guaranteed purse of $5,833. At the time of writing this article, the prize money for the winner stands at $250,836. The amount is subject to change according to ticket sales.

2020 CrossFit Games Bronze medalist Kari Pearce and 2019 CrossFit Games Silver Medalist Kristin Holte have announced their retirement from competitive CrossFit but will compete in the Rogue Invitational CrossFit competition. Holte and Pearce both have a legitimate chance to give the reigning champion Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr a run for the money and achieve a podium finish.

2021 CrossFit Legends Tournament

As the name suggests, CrossFit Legends roster consists of athletes who have had a number of podium finishes throughout their careers. Athletes competing at the 2021 legends have a combined eight CrossFit Games titles between them. Jason Khalipa earned the top overall spot in the legends division in 2019 and will defend his position against the likes of Rich Froning and Josh Bridges.

2021 Rogue Invitational Strongman Competition

The Strongman competition at the 2021 Rogue Invitational will feature the largest prize purse in the strongman contest history. At the time of writing this article, the winner’s prize stands at $130,814 and will only keep getting higher with tickets sale.

The roster will feature some of the most accomplished strongmen in the sport’s history, including four-time WSM Brian Shaw, 2021 WSM winner Tom Stoltman and previous winners Oleksii Novikov and Martins Licis. The entire roster, barring the exception of Rob Kearney, has competed at the WSM finals. Mateusz Kieliszkowski and JF Caron are other competitors who have achieved a podium finish at the WSM competition.

Each athlete will have 3 attempts to establish their max weight.

Event 2 – CYR Bell Ladder

Friday, Oct. 29th – 7:05 PM EST

Cyr bell weights in order: 253lbs, 274lbs, 280lbs, 290lbs, 300lbs

Head to head competition

Event 3 – The Wheel of Pain

Saturday, Oct. 30th – 12:00 PM EST

Farthest distance pushed wins

Total Wheel of Pain weight is 20,000lbs, same as prior years

Time Cap: 60 seconds

Event 4 – Yoke Carry, Overhead Log Lift Medley

Saturday, Oct. 30th – 2:55 PM EST

  • 50ft Yoke carry (1000lbs)
  • 3 Overhead Log Lifts (360lb)

Event 5 – Stone Over Hitching Post

Saturday, Oct. 30th – 8:50 PM EST

One competitor competes at a time
The fastest competitor to get all 5 stones up and over a 50″ high wooden log bar, wins
Stone weights in order: 275lbs, 300lbs, 365lbs, 400lbs, 420lbs
The competition will use Rogue’s replica Inver Stones

2021 Rogue Invitational Record Breakers

Athletes qualified from the online qualifying stage will attempt to break eight records in six events at the Record Breakers event.

Event 1 – Anvil Grip

The current record for Anvil grip in the men’s division belongs to Eric Dawson (240lbs) and Sarah Chappelow (170lbs) holds the record in the women’s division. Athletes will lift the specified amount of weight using a cone-shaped metal attachment called Anvil Grip.

Event 2 – Women’s Dumbbell Press

 Kristin Rhodes and Donna Moore hold the current record for this strongman classic at 180lbs. Athletes attempt to establish their one-rep max with an oversized dumbbell in this event

Event 3 – Women’s Bag Over Bar

Athletes are required to toss a bag or keg of a particular weight over a bar placed at a certain height. Women’s world record for this event is held by Hanna Linzay who tossed a 40lbs bag over a 15-foot bar.

Event 4 – Dinnie Stone Hold

Athletes attempt to hold the Dinnie Stones made of granite in each hand for as long as possible.

Mark Felix, who held the stones for 31.40 seconds, is the current record holder of this event.

  • Stone One, left hand — 144.5 kilograms (318.6 pounds)
  • Stone Two, right hand — 188 kilograms (414.5 pounds)

Event 5 – Thor’s Hammer

Athletes attempt a static front hold of a large hammer that typically weighs 30kg (66.1lbs). The weight of the hammer at the 2021 Rogue Invitational has not been specified. Therefore, an inaugural record holder of this event will be crowned at the event.

Event 6 – Deadlifts For Reps

Austin Malleolo and Carolyne Prevost hold the current record for 61 and 62 reps in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively. Men athletes will deadlift 142.8kg (315lbs) at the event while women athletes will deadlift 102kg (225lbs).
