The 2025 World’s Strongest Man is currently underway from May 15 to 18 in Sacramento, California. The first two days featured a grueling qualifying stage, where 25 athletes were divided into five groups and challenged across five intense events. The top two performers from each group advanced, locking in the ten-man lineup for this year’s finals.
Understanding Points Carryover
The 2025 World’s Strongest Man competition has adopted a brand-new format for the second stage of the competition. Namely, in previous years, the athletes going into the finals would all get a clean slate and an equal starting point. However, that isn’t the case this year.
With the qualifying stage over, the organizers ran a calculation of results achieved by the athletes who made it to the finals as if they were competing against each other the entire time. Based on this, they determined the rankings for best to worst performers in the qualifying stage.
Consequently, they awarded the best performer from the qualifiers with 10 points, while the athletes behind him earned fewer points based on the position that they achieved. So, they will carry the points that they received over into the finals, which gives a slight advantage to those who performed better in the first stage of the competition.

Finals Lineup Overview
It is clear that Mitchell Hooper is now one of the biggest favorites to take the title of 2025 World’s Strongest Man. He carries 10 points going into the finals and has some great events scheduled in the coming days. He already has experience winning the competition, having won it in 2023.
Mitchell Hooper’s biggest rival, Tom Stoltman, is going into the finals with just one point less. So, it is clear that the two will once again put on a show for the crowd. Tom is the defending champion this year, having won the competition in 2024, 2022, and 2021.
Some other athletes that will be in contention for the title, or the podium at the very least, are Trey Mitchell, Rayno Nel, and Paddy Haynes. All three had incredible showings in the qualifying stage, proving that they can stand against the likes of Hooper and Stoltman.
Interestingly, both the youngest, Ondrej Fojtu, and oldest, Luke Stoltman, athletes at the 2025 World’s Strongest Man managed to qualify for the finals. Ondrej is making his finals debut at just 23-years-old, while Luke Stoltman is set to make his fifth appearance in the finals at 40-years-old.
With two days of finals remaining, the 2025 World’s Strongest Man will get even more exciting. Only five events remain until this year’s champion is crowned, and all of the finalists definitely have the ability to make the title race very unpredictable. Two men have the chance to get back on the top of the podium, while eight other Strongmen will look to secure the greatest achievement of their careers so far as well by taking the trophy home.
