The 120+ kg category 2021 IPF World Champion Jesus Olivares is known for his squat prowess. Olivares makes every squat look extremely easy, and it looks like he never struggles. On February 28th, 2022, he posted a new Raw Squat PR of 445 kg (981 lbs). Olivares looks very powerful and capable of an even heavier squat. He also has the tendency of getting even better in a short amount of time, which could soon result in a new PR.

Jesus Olivares used knee sleeves and a lifting belt to aid him in the lift. Due to it being an insanely heavyweight, he also used wrist wraps and elbow sleeves to ease the pressure on his joints. The depth of Olivares’ squat was beyond impressive, and would easily get three white lights in a powerlifting competition. His current competition PR is 427.5 kg (942.5 lbs), which he has done at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships. This means his recent squat PR is 17.5 kg (38.6 lbs) heavier than his competition best.

Jesus Olivares will compete at the 2022 Powerlifting America Classic (Raw) Open Nationals, from April 1-3, 2022, in Austin, TX. There are still 5 weeks left to prepare, and everything points to Jesus Olivares squatting 1000 lbs (453.6 lbs). If he does raw squat 1000 lbs in competition, it would make him only the fifth person to do so officially.

Jesus Olivares Career

Jesus Olivares began powerlifting at 14-years-old, and after some practice got his squat up to 485 lbs (220 kg). He took part in 6 more sanctioned competitions, and in April of 2015 decided to take a break from powerlifting. Olivares came back much stronger and won his first meet back in 2019 as a Junior lifter in the 120+ kg category. Since then, Olivares has been on a 7 win streak, and will attempt to continue it for as long as possible.

Jesus has taken part in 14 sanctioned competitions in total. The greatest of those were the 2021 World Classic Powerlifting Championships, and the 2021 USAPL Raw Nationals. He won the 120+ kg category in both competitions.

Jesus Olivares is widely considered as the successor of current All-Time Squat World Record holder, Ray Williams. In only 5 weeks, we will probably get the chance to see Olivares join the exclusive 1000 lbs squat club, which will mark him down in history.
