The 2023 IPF World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic Championships have proved to be a record-breaking festival in Cluj, Romania, with numerous youngsters lifting weights that no one ever has in the past. Amongst them was Antonio Perez Barros, a Spanish representative, who put up a very impressive lift while competing in the raw 93-kilogram weight class. Antonio, who was born in 2001, competes in junior powerlifting, where he has just put up a 333-kilogram (734.1-pound) squat for a new U105KG IPF Junior World Record.
In order to test the waters and see how strong he is on the day of competition, Antonio Perez Barros first squatted 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds). Then, as his muscular system was up and running, Antonio jumped up to 320 kilograms (705.5 pounds) for his second attempt, which did not pose a challenge for him.
With only one attempt left, it was all or nothing for Antonio Perez Barros, and he decided to load 0.5 kilograms (1.1 pounds) over the old record. So, the total weight of his squat came out to 333 kilograms (734.1 pounds). When the stage was set for him, Antonio walked out with a lifting belt and knee sleeves in place, and got under the barbell. He unracked it, braced for the lift, completed the descending motion, and then began his grind back up. It took a lot of energy, concentration, and resilience, but Antonio ended up pushing through the sticking point and securing a World Record.
Clement Corentin was the man who held the previous U105KG IPF Squat Junior World Record of 332.5 kilograms (733 pounds), which he set at the 2022 EPF European Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Antonio Perez Barros claimed bronze at the 2023 IPF Junior World Championships for the second year in a row, but this year he also claimed a new World Record. His performance was nearly perfect, as he only missed one deadlift attempt, but it luckily did not cost him his placement. Moreover, Antonio ended up setting three new competition PRs as well as equaling his bench press competition PR. So, it was a very successful competition for him.

Data source: OpenPowerlifting. Data through July 19, 2026.
Antonio Perez Barros has been competing for around four years now and has taken part in a total of 11 sanctioned powerlifting competitions, winning four of them. However, all four of his victories were extremely impressive, since he claimed one Junior and one Sub-Junior EPF European Champion title.
Antonio Perez Barros has proved a lot with his recent performance at 2023 IPF Junior Worlds, as it is clear that he is very consistent and one of the strongest squatters in the world. So, he possesses everything that he needs to succeed, and hopefully we will keep seeing him compete at the highest level.
