Jay Cutler, who still exercises seven days a week, prides himself on never missing a workout. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler walked fans through his demanding leg day training session at Gold’s Gym Venice, California.
Having tested the waters as a dominant Men’s Open Pro, Jay Cutler faced the who’s who of bodybuilding talent during his prime. In 2006, his combination of fullness and conditioning led to him dethroning former eight-time Mr. Olympia juggernaut Ronnie Coleman.
Aside from his four Mr. Olympia titles and the intense rivalry he shared with ‘The King,’ Jay Cutler remains the only man in history to win back the Olympia crown, a feat he achieved in 2009 after defeating Dexter Jackson and runner-up Branch Warren.
Since his retirement in 2013, Cutler has remained devoted to his intense training practices. He routinely offers workout guides, tips, and instructions for anyone hoping to level up their fitness. Now, he’s back with a tortuous leg day training session at the West Coast Mecca of bodybuilding.

Machine Leg Curl
Cutler began his leg day training with two sets of machine leg curls.
Stiff Leg Deadlift
For his second movement, Cutler pushed through stiff-legged deadlifts.
“Stiff-legged deadlifts, I’m going to do at least three sets here. I’m going to start with 60 pounds, 65 pounds, how’s that?” said Cutler. “A lot of days we’ve been here Dave. A lot of training at Gold’s Gym. Got a good pump already.”
Standing One Leg Curl
Cutler preferred to hit 12 reps of two sets on the standing one-leg curl.
“Alright, we’re just going to do two sets of this one-leg curl, going to focus on 12 reps for each leg.”
Machine Lying Hamstring Curl
Next, Cutler completed two sets of machine-lying hamstring curls.
Machine Leg Extensions
For leg extensions, Cutler kept the weight at 90 pounds.
“Get the blood going a little bit. I’m going to start with 90, not very much weight,” said Cutler. “Wow, that hurt.”
Machine Vertical Leg Press
Cutler moved on to the machine vertical leg press with ‘three and a quarter’ plates.
“Remember, I’m not counting [reps]. Every workout has been a little different since I cut back the volume. I’m kind of just going by what I feel. For me, we always say every day, as a bodybuilder you got to make those adjustments based on how tired we are.”
“We’re starting with three and a quarter [plates], how’s that?” Cutler shared. “Easy work bro, easy shit,”
Machine Leg press
Cutler favored the machine leg press due to its constant tension.
“A lot of variations of this so the reps are kind of short, constant tension. I don’t know how many I did. I feel great, I feel good. Good pump. I’m judging all the workouts by the pump.”
Barbell Squats
Before starting his last exercise, Cutler spoke with former Mr. Olympia Samir Bannout.
“Right now, it’s all about longevity and keeping the engine running,” Bannout tells Cutler. “I still got abs.”
“We’re not going to go heavy on this, just engage everything,” added Cutler.
Having completed his physique transformation for his ‘Fit-for-50’ challenge, Cutler continues to showcase impressive longevity. In addition to boasting off-the-charts strength, Cutler still carries substantial muscle mass despite enjoying retirement for a decade.
Judging from his most recent leg day training session, Cutler hasn’t slowed down in the slightest since hanging up his posing trunks. As one of the busiest men in bodybuilding, he continues to inspire new generations of fans to pick up weights.
