Delaney Wallace was one of 24 elite powerlifters who competed at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, which took place on February 10th. However, what made his performance unique was the fact that he walked away with an 842.5-kilogram (1,857.4-pound) U83KG IPF Total World Record, which will undoubtedly spark a huge rivalry between him and Russel Orhii.

Squat

Delaney Wallace’s path towards the Total World Record started with the squats. He knew what needed to be done, so he made sure not to make any mistakes. Thus, he opened up with 282.5 kilograms (622.8 pounds), but quickly built up to a significantly heavier squat in the remaining events.

Having successfully performed all three attempts, Delaney Wallace’s heaviest squat of the day came out to 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds). It was equal to his previous Competition PR, which was more than good enough for him.

  • 282.5 kilograms (622.8 pounds)
  • 297.5 kilograms (655.9 pounds)
  • 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds)

Bench Press

The bench press proved to be the turning point for Delaney Wallace, as he came in much stronger than ever before. So, Delaney crushed all three of his attempts and ended up benching 207.5 kilograms (457.5 pounds) on his final one. For reference, his previous Competition PR was 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds) lighter.

Deadlift

Despite performing extremely well in the squats and the bench, the deadlift event was truly a “make or break’ for Delaney Wallace. He opened up with a pull of 310 kilograms (683.4 pounds), which was decent, but he still needed another 20 kilograms (44.1 pounds) to break the Total World Record.

So, Delaney wasted no time and loaded 330 kilograms (727.5 pounds) for his second attempt. He started pulling with a sumo stance and a mixed grip, and soon enough, he locked out the lift, setting a new Total World Record.

Delaney Wallace also attempted to deadlift 335 kilograms (738.5 pounds) on his final attempt. Unfortunately, although he did get the barbell above his knees, he could not quite fully lock it out.

  • 310 kilograms (683.4 pounds)
  • 330 kilograms (727.5 pounds)
  • Unsuccessful — 335 kilograms (738.5 pounds)

Total — 842.5 kilograms (1,857.4 pounds) — U83KG IPF World Record

*The previous U83KG IPF Total World Record holder was Russel Orhii. The record stood at 841-kg (1,854.1-lb) which he set at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

“I cannot put this feeling I have into words. If you had spoke to me 2 months ago I honestly wasn’t even sure if I was going to compete. Am injury I had sustained going into worlds last year only seemed to get worse with no end in sight.”

The reason why Delaney Wallace’s Total World Record is so important is because the previous holder, Russel Orhii, has recently announced that he is coming back to the IPF after a few years of being absent. So, Delaney is showing that the battle between the two will be tight and unpredictable.

Delaney Wallace’s career consists of 13 sanctioned powerlifting appearances and eight victories. Two of those wins came at the 2022 and 2023 IPF World Championships. So, Delaney will look to get his third consecutive title this year. However, it will be his most difficult task yet, considering that Russel Orhii also wants to be a World Champion.
