Despite maintaining a busy schedule, bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates makes his health and fitness a priority. In a recent post on Instagram shared on September 23, 2024, Yates flaunted washboard abs in a physique update, providing his fans with insight into how he trains while traveling.

In his prime, Dorian Yates used a high-intensity training approach inspired by the late Mike Mentzer and Arthur Jones. His methods proved extremely effective after accumulating six back-to-back Mr. Olympia wins from 1992-1997.

After stepping away from the competitive stage, Dorian Yates never truly gave up his passion for training. At 62, Yates remains committed to putting his health and wellness first, whether it be through pilates for mobility and flexibility or simply hitting the gym beachside in Spain to maintain his shredded physique.

Yates stays active within the bodybuilding and fitness communities through social media, providing his tried-and-true tips on topics ranging from the best way to build a bigger back to how to approach cheat days. He also owns a sports nutrition company called DY Nutrition, which, as of late, has kept him bustling about. However, in true Dorian Yates fashion, he still found a way to get in his workout, and below, he details how he did so.

“When traveling, I normally will do just some cardio and stretching, just to keep the blood flowing. If a sauna is available then I’ll definitely use that too. For this trip, I did just one weight training session during the 2 weeks, it’s not something I stress about, when I’m home it’s just 2 weight sessions per week now.”

Yates emphasized that he doesn’t put pressure on himself to train while traveling since commuting can expend a great deal of energy.

“I do what I can do now if I’m traveling, since it’s quite tiring! Traveling, queuing, car drives, planes etc. I only have so much energy so if I can get it in great, if not it’s not something I’d stress about” Yates explained.

What is most important to Dorian Yates is making memories.

“But a great trip with lots of memories created!”

Health and wellness have long been on Dorian Yates’ to-do list since announcing his retirement. To ensure the condition of his body and longevity, he has incorporated stem cell therapy procedures into his regimen. Like many other decorated athletes such as eight-time Mr. Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman, Yates has credited the treatment for helping him with mobility and pain levels following years of wear and tear through countless training sessions.

Having led a one-of-a-kind career with a legendary back, Dorian Yates continues to prove what is possible in retirement for those following in his footsteps. Whether he is at home or traveling, he always makes sure to get in a workout.
