It’s been high drama in the lead-up to the Classic Physique Olympia. For weeks, questions about Mike Sommerfeld’s true height lit up social media. On Oct. 9, all Classic Physique competitors had their heights and weights rechecked before being cleared to compete, angering Sommerfeld’s coach Neil Hill.

Sommerfeld confirmed during the 2025 Olympia press conference that he had to lose 14 pounds in two days, and weighed in at 204 pounds.

In 2019, Sommerfeld spoke to Dennis James in an Instagram reel and revealed that he was 5’7″. That clip has gone viral, and after he told Jay Cutler his weight cap was actually 212 pounds, fans noticed that things weren’t adding up.

To weigh 212 in the Classic Physique division, an athlete must be at least 5’9.5″ according to the IFBB Pro League rules. Historically, other competitors have struggled to make weight in this class, like contender Ramon Queiroz, who missed the mark back in 2022

Days before the height/weight check, coach Neil Hill expressed frustration about the last-minute rule change.

“We did nothing, so we never did anything all year or since the last show to prep for this! So are we going to make height and weight?

We’ll have to wait and see because we spent six months prepping for this show, six months to make weight. The thing is, why did they change the rules? How can you justify changing something last minute? A week before? Seriously,” Neil ‘Yoda’ Hill said
