Max Amsden, an impressive Classic Physique bodybuilder, made a splash in the amateur ranks despite his battle with kidney failure. After competing at back-to-back shows, he took to Instagram in October, looking back on the unforgettable experience.
Standing out in the Classic Physique division is a tall order. The top of the food chain features big-name talents, including reigning Mr. Olympia champion Ramon “Dino” Queiroz, Mike Sommerfeld, Terrence Ruffin, and Josema Munoz.
Amsden did not let his kidney failure hold him back from shining onstage. He stormed the 2025 NPC Ace of Stage Championships and held his own. Ultimately, Amsden secured second place, paving the way for him to test his limits at the stacked Amateur Olympia competition. Even with a peritoneal dialysis catheter hooked to his chest, he managed to keep the audience on their feet en route to 15th place.
Bodybuilder Inspires At Back-to-Back Shows Despite His Kidney Failure
In a recent Instagram reel, Amsden opened up about competing at two shows in just a few days. Reflecting on the performances, he emphasized, “For a guy in kidney failure, I think that’s pretty good.”
“Not only did I compete in my first-ever bodybuilding show, I placed well enough that I went on and competed at the Amateur Olympia, which is a national-level show four days later.
For a guy in kidney failure, I think that’s pretty good. I am not complaining. But first and foremost, I have to say thank you to everybody who has helped me along this way.”
