It’s not often we see Mr. Olympia and Classic Mr. Olympia workout together. So, when Brandon Curry (Mr. Olympia) and Chris Bumstead (Classic Mr. Olympia) joined up for a raw chest session, well, we had to see this! Chris Bumstead uploaded the video to his channel so he started off by having a chat with the Open champ, whom he jokingly called the ‘real Mr. Olympia’.
But both have apparently been taking a little time off since their big wins back in September, which will no doubt allow them to come back physically and even mentally better in preparation for 2020. So this session will be one of many that’ll help them get back into the groove until they go full throttle again.
They trained at a new gym in Tennessee called Carbonculture of which Curry is affiliated but he explained that he’ll be opening up his own gym soon closer to where he lives and he’s definitely excited about that especially since he’ll be training and preparing for the Olympia there.
But without further ado, we’ll let you watch the training session where Curry took the lead and you know the youngster snagged a few tips that he can use to better improve his training…
So they used several different machines during the workout and we have to admit, the gym has some really impressive equipment. The first exercise appears to be the floor press using a machine which is rather interesting. Then, they moved on to an incline machine press, followed by an incline machine fly into a close-grip press.
Bumstead was definitely feeling that one as he explained:

“those little presses trick you, you don’t think you’re moving the weight at all but it just like burns right on that mid-upper chest and then you’re just stuck.”
The next movement looked like a hybrid between the incline dumbbell fly and press which involved the eccentric portion of the fly into a press. In the video, you can hear Curry say “more blood, more stretch” implying that’s the goal with this particular movement, and it did not look easy at all!
And finally, the last chest exercise for the day was a seated cable fly where they went until they absolutely could not anymore.
After the workout, Chris Bumstead looked absolutely pooped as he explained he hasn’t done that much volume in a while. But the strategy behind why Brandon Curry trains this way right now is so that he can focus on getting good contractions while conditioning his joints for progressively heavier training. So, he’s basically trying to do the least possible that will still allow him to benefit and progress.
Curry also mentioned the fact that they implemented super set variations that involved mechanic advantage (using a different position) as opposed to adding more weight. He says it’s safer sometimes to train this way especially when trying to get back into the groove.
But Chris Bumstead ended the video with a few words and that pretty much wrapped up the day. This was a pretty neat collaboration with two of the best bodybuilders in the world and 2020 should be an exciting year for them!
