It’s a rare occurrence that it’s a slow news day this time of year in the fitness community. Usually, events are happening left and right, gyms are wide open and people are hitting PR’s left and right. However, things have changed, bats were eaten and everything is now closed.
Which is a-okay, if you’re name is Brian Shaw and you own a $500k home gym. Since most of the Strongman events that were scheduled for the next few months are now canceled, Brian is now faced with a similar problem The Mountain was. Sit on your ass, stuff your face with food and just casually train until the world collectively comes out of this crazy situation. Or, tweak your goals to suits your current situation and train at your own home gym.
Brian is now chasing a big goal of getting a 701lbs bench press and is seeking help from the “Jailhouse Strong” book author Josh Bryant. Josh Bryant, also just so happens to be the coach of the world’s best bench presser and record holder, Julius Maddox. It’s safe to say Brian has hired the right people for the goal in mind.
One of the many exercises he implemented into his training is dumbbell presses and this training session, Brian was moving some serious weight.
Making these 170’s more challenging adding in the pause at the bottom of each press. This is something I have not done before with dumbbells that @jailhousestrong threw in for me and I like the challenge. Now I just need to get some heavier DB’s!

As you can see by the caption, Brian was pause repping 170lbs in each hand. Which is an insane weight to move with a regular workout tempo, now doing that with a pause is nothing short of mind-numbing. There’s no doubt that a 4x time World’s Strongest Man has it in him to reach the 701 lbs bench press.
