Dorian Yates is one of the most legendary bodybuilders to ever step on stage. He was recently involved in a bicycle accident that left him injured, and with a dislocated shoulder.
There is a solid argument to make that Yates deserves a high spot on the shortlist of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. He won six out the seven Olympias that he competed in, only coming in second place at his very first time in the contest. He is one of the most successful athletes to ever grace the bodybuilding stage, and has even wound up on Joe Rogan’s Mount Rushmore of bodybuilding. His time in the sport is remembered fondly, even two decades after his last competition.
Unfortunately it seems that Dorian Yates is a bit banged up at the moment. According to a post to his Instagram, the 58 year old was riding his bicycle on the beach, but he hit an oil spot and lost control of his bike. This led to him wrecking the bicycle, and dislocating his shoulder in the process.
“On a lovely sunny Sunday morning I thought it was going to be a peaceful bike ride along the beach path until I hit an oil patch. I lost the bike from underneath me causing me to crash with my shoulder on the floor. The result was a very painful dislocation of my right shoulder. Thanks to the passers by, specially a lady called Maria for helping me get to the road where my wife @gal_yates drove me to the hospital. Actually my wife @gal_yates is the one typing because I can’t use my right hand 😆
I have to keep my shoulder immobilised for 3 weeks minimum, followed by a lengthy period of rehab and recovery which means no training, again 😩 which’s going to be tough.Thrombosis earlier in the year, and now this challenge. 2020, what a year.”

It is a good thing that Yates was not too seriously injured, and was assisted by some passers by. Bicycling is a great way to stay healthy, especially in your older age as Arnold Schwarzenegger would tell you, but it can be pretty risky. Yet all things considered, he seems to have gotten off pretty lucky in this instance.
As he alludes to in the post, Yates has been dealing with a few other health issues this year. He had been dealing with thrombosis, which is a blood clot in one of his blood vessels. It is unfortunate to start the year dealing with that, and end it with several weeks on the shelf with no training.
Hopefully Dorian Yates can have a speedy recovery, and get back to training soon. He says there will be a lengthy rehabilitation process, but we wish him ease throughout these next few months.
