More questions than answers surround the future of former 2019 Mr. Olympia winner Brandon Curry. In a special appearance on The Menace Podcast, his former coach, Abdullah Alotaibi spilled the tea on why he chose to no longer work with one of the best bodybuilders in the world.
Equipped with beautiful muscle bellies, a thin waist, and a complete back, there was no stopping Brandon Curry from making his mark in the IFBB Pro League. Curry’s mass and class would snag the 2019 Mr. Olympia crown with a career-defining performance. Having worked alongside Abdullah Alotaibi to accomplish this feat, the two were no doubt extremely close.
Coach Abdullah Alotaibi Opens Up About Why He’s No Longer Working With Former Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry
Last year, was painful, to say the least for Brandon Curry. Although he had coach Alotaibi in his corner, Curry’s entrance for the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest was in jeopardy after he was rushed to the hospital one day before stepping on the stage.
He was unable to breathe and felt like he had something obstructing his airways. He was treated at the hospital and against all odds, managed to perform on the Mr. Olympia stage. Not only did he make it to the blockbuster competition, but he was able to earn a fourth-place finish. We have yet to hear about what show Curry might attempt next, and now with his coach out of the picture, his outlook appears even more uncertain.

As for Abdullah Alotaibi, he sat down as a special guest on The Menace Podcast to share why he decided to part ways with Brandon Curry considering how close the two were.
“I like Brandon like a brother, and they have a beautiful family, beautiful wife, but Dennis, I went with Brandon all that thing you know, and I went with him to the Arnold, and I went with him to the Olympia, this time I feel in my heart, we will never win” Alotaibi said.
Post-2023 Mr. Olympia, Abdullah Alotaibi explained that he advised Brandon Curry to focus on training.
“We never prepare him to lose because this is my brother you know. Honestly, I know if Brandon is bad no but this is honest, I am honest guy. After, since Olympia (2023) I didn’t have any phone calls with Brandon. I called him after Arnold Classic, I told him go do Dubai show because you need to rebind and go like Olympia training camp.”
Alotaibi felt Curry needed to put on size and dry out more, considering he isn’t getting any younger.
“You need size, dry size, dry makes good sense for Olympia because you know Brandon is not anymore younger and I didn’t see any picture. I didn’t see any video. I didn’t see anything, zero. I say, with my team, I told him this time I’m not with Brandon.”
Abdullah Alotaibi ultimately decided to part ways with Brandon Curry, apologizing to the top Men’s Open star.
“Last week Brandon sent me a message and he tried to call me, I told him I’m sorry Brandon, I’m sorry again. I can’t prepare you this time because my heart and my mind say no. I don’t have magic, if I had magic I’d go with him but I don’t have magic.”
The future remains uncertain for Curry after no longer working with his coach. Even though he has yet to discuss if he will be participating in upcoming shows, as a former Olympia champion, he is already among the qualifiers for the 2024 Mr. Olympia. Fans will have to wait and see what is in store for Men’s Open bodybuilder Brandon Curry.
