Actor Channing Tatum swears he’ll avoid roles that require weight gain moving forward. On March 22, 2025, he showed off his shredded physique after losing 30 pounds, weighing in at 205 pounds.

Channing Tatum is best known for his work in the comedy-drama Magic Mike franchise, where he played a ripped stripper. However, he’s also taken on plenty of action movie projects, including G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).

Tatum says he put on substantial weight for his role in Josephine. The film has yet to be released to the public, but he played the protagonist’s father. The movie is about an eight-year-old girl who witnesses an attack in Golden Gate Park, leading her to become highly paranoid and fearful.

Over the years, Channing Tatum’s weight and health have fluctuated throughout various movie roles. At one point, he dropped to 172 pounds while filming for Roofman, where he played a U.S. Army major who resorted to robbing a McDonald’s by entering through their roofs. This film hasn’t been released either, but is expected to be on October 3, 2025.

In a recent Instagram post, Tatum shared three pictures: his current physique at 205 pounds, his 235-pound look from Josephine, and another of him weighing 172 pounds for Roofman

“We back up! lol. 1st photo is today 205. 2nd photo 235 for a movie called Josephine. Then went to 3rd photo which is 172 for a movie Roofman.”

He expressed gratitude to his trainer, chef, and nutritionist. Looking ahead, Tatum plans to stay away from movie roles that require him to add weight to his frame. He explained that it takes a toll on the body, and shedding the weight is a challenge.

“I’m so grateful for my genetics. Grateful for my chef/nutritionist/witch. Grateful for my trainer. I couldn’t make these big swings in my weight without you guys. But i won’t be doing any more fat roles haha.

It’s too hard on the body and too hard to take off now. But damn when i look at these pics it’s just wild what the human body and will can do,” he explains

Tatum isn’t the only high-profile actor to turn heads with a physique transformation. Hugh Jackman also built a superhero body for his role in Deadpool 3 alongside co-star Ryan Reynolds. In addition, Zac Efron completely transformed his look to play a pro-wrestler in Iron Claw.

Sometimes it’s easy to believe that celebrities have it easy with personal chefs and nutritionists, but that shouldn’t detract from the challenges of dropping weight. It takes discipline, careful dieting, and adherence – attributes Tatum has worked hard to maintain.
